According to the secret teachings of Marpa, is it merely gathering accomplishments inward without outward dispersion? Or is it contemplating entering from the father's mouth into the mother's mouth, returning from the secret space to samsara? Regarding this, the "Light Gradation" considers it an inner recitation, stating: "Inwardly, the father and mother meet face to face, with silent recitation, the essence of the central channel is the path of contraction and expansion, from mouth to mouth, from space to space, rotating, poison reversing, experiencing bliss." Thus it is said. The third is the three subtle aspects: at the time of contraction and expansion, it is the contraction and expansion of syllables, hand gestures, and the subtle body, or performing vajra recitation. In the "Four Mudras," it says: "Initially, speech; in the middle, mind; finally, the subtle body contracts and expands; or perform vajra recitation." Thus it is said. In this way, through any preferred method, one should complete the three approaches—superior with signs, intermediate with time limit, and inferior with number—to the required standard. As the "Stages of the Path" states: "Recitation should be brought to completion." And the "Light Gradation" states: "Approach is of number, time, and signs; it is said to be the supreme of methods." Thus it is said. Among these, the approach with signs is that, in whatever state of the single mudra posture, one should recite until one's five experiences reach their culmination. The second is the time-limited approach, because here there is no definitive specification of time and number. Therefore, whether it is one year, six months, one month, etc., one should recite until the completion of whatever one has vowed to recite. The third is the numerical approach, which is also like this: one should recite until the number one has vowed to recite. However, the commentary of the Omniscient Great One states: "Generally, one million recitations for the main deity, and one hundred thousand recitations each for the retinue, are considered to complete the numerical approach, so here we should follow this." Thus it should be understood. In short, the act of recitation is entering into the activity of the Buddha. Therefore, the body is the samadhi of clear mudra, speech is the pure recitation of secret mantra, and mind is the realization that all dharmas are unborn. By practicing through the means of possessing these three dharmas, great meaning will be accomplished. As the "Clear Light of Vows" states: "Manifestly uniting one's own three doors with the body, speech, and mind of the yidam, constantly reciting, is entering into the Bodhi Dharani." Thus it is said. Secondly, regarding mudras, there are the nature mudra, the view mudra, and the superior...

The three mudras of empowerment. The first is: All conceptualizations are inherently complete within the mandala of the magic net. As it says in the "Complete Accomplishment of the Magic Net": "All are the supreme mudra of enlightenment." And in the Extensive One: "The great mudra of self-nature, all outer and inner phenomena, the five families of Sugata fathers and mothers, abide within the great mudra." Thus, in the three stages of abiding, realizing, and manifesting, they are also designated as the mudras of self-nature, view, and result. The second is: At that time, when one realizes that conceptualizations abide in the nature of deities, whatever is done does not go beyond the great mudra, thus enhancing ordinary conceptualizations. As it says: "The supreme gathering of the great mudra, if endowed with skillful means and wisdom, all is unmoving and unshaken, abiding within the great mudra." The third is: Whichever peaceful or wrathful deity assembly is meditated upon, it should be meditated upon as having four or seven mudras. The first is, as it says in the "Clear Light": "Vow, action, dharma, and body are the four great mudras." The second is: The first two are establishment and intention, the third is merely divided into intention and speech. Among the peaceful and wrathful deities, first, for the peaceful deity's mudra, there is the cause of the mudra, the general samaya mudra of the five families, and the individual mudras of each deity. The first is, as it says in the "Small Commentary": "The head is the nature of the Tathagata family, the right hand is Vajra Akshobhya, the left hand is the Ratnasambhava family, the left foot is the Dharma family, and the right foot is the Karma family." Thus, the five parts of the body are naturally accomplished in the mandala of the five families, and this should be understood. The seed syllable in the sun disc of Akshobhya, the seed syllable in the moon disc of Ratnasambhava. As it says, for Akshobhya, on the fingertips of the right hand, on each sun disc, place the five letters Hūṃ (藏文:ཧཱུྃ,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽), Oṃ (藏文:ༀ,梵文天城体:ओं,梵文罗马拟音:oṃ,汉语字面意思:嗡), Svā (藏文:སྭཱ,梵文天城体:स्वा,梵文罗马拟音:svā,汉语字面意思:梭), Aṃ (藏文:ཨཾ,梵文天城体:अं,梵文罗马拟音:aṃ,汉语字面意思:阿), Hāṃ (藏文:ཧཱཾ,梵文天城体:हां,梵文罗马拟音:hāṃ,汉语字面意思:杭) respectively on the middle finger, index finger, ring finger, thumb, and little finger. Similarly, for Ratnasambhava, the five fingers of the left hand are marked with moon discs, on which are placed Mūṃ (藏文:མཱུཾ,梵文天城体:मूं,梵文罗马拟音:mūṃ,汉语字面意思:穆), Lāṃ (藏文:ལཱཾ,梵文天城体:लां,梵文罗马拟音:lāṃ,汉语字面意思:朗), Māṃ (藏文:མཱཾ,梵文天城体:मां,梵文罗马拟音:māṃ,汉语字面意思:芒), Pāṃ (藏文:པཱཾ,梵文天城体:पां,梵文罗马拟音:pāṃ,汉语字面意思:邦), Tāṃ (藏文:ཏཱཾ,梵文天城体:तां,梵文罗马拟音:tāṃ,汉语字面意思:当) in the same order as before. Then, joining the palms is the cause of the arising of the mudra. As it says in the Root Tantra: "From the five points of the immovable vajra, five letters, sun bindus."
