Having practiced the lower vehicle for a long time, in the first half of this life, one also practices the vehicle that serves as the foundation of the path, and then enters the Mahayana vehicle. Sharpening through practice all at once means: being in accordance with the practice of the previous life, and entering the Mahayana from the very beginning of this life. The gradual sharpness of innate faculties means: not having practiced in previous lives, and in the first half of this life, temporarily practicing the lower vehicle as the foundation of the path, and finally entering the Mahayana. The innate sharpness all at once means: not having practiced in previous lives either, and entering the Mahayana itself from the very beginning of this life. Secondly, to establish sharpening through practice and innate sharpness. First, from the Lamrim: For as many eons as there are dust motes on the earth, Having thoroughly practiced and well established, For the sake of entering here with eyes of wisdom, The long duration is also gradual and all at once. And so forth, it is established by many common scriptural and logical proofs of both Sutra and Tantra. Secondly, to establish that if there is no innate sharpness, it will become a fault, therefore it must exist. To specifically explain the reasoning for establishing this point, and to refute the view that this tantra is not the object of innate sharpness. First, some say: If one has sharp faculties, then one must have sharpened through practice, therefore the basis of innate sharp faculties is not established. If that were the case, then the eight ordinary minds of worldly beings should not arise either. Because if one has sharp faculties, then one must have sharpened through practice. The eight ordinary minds of worldly beings are not explained in the previous path category, therefore it is impossible to practice before that. As the Lamrim says: That ground of the darkness of consciousness, Abides nourished by the cause of its own nature. When the eight ordinary minds finally abide. And in the commentary on Rangjung Gyalpo: By the reasoning of the nature of phenomena, eight ordinary minds arise from the ground of darkness. If one believes that the eight ordinary minds arise from the ground of darkness, then the view that there is no innate sharpness is refuted. Furthermore, if one has sharp faculties, then one must have sharpened through practice, therefore, with the same practice, there should be no difference between sharp and dull. If one admits this, it is obvious. If one asks: Was the sharpness itself practiced in the previous life, or what? The answer: It was not practiced, or what? If one says "what", then it cannot be established by reasoning, this is what the great benefactor, the Sugata, said. Moreover, the appearance of the Great and Small Vehicles is also unreasonable, because with the same practice, there should be no difference in the size of the intellect, and if there is no difference in the size of the intellect, then the vehicle also

That's impossible, because the order of vehicles is distinguished by the difference in intelligence. As it is said in the Gongdü: "Because there is intelligence of great and small order, so is the order of vehicles." Secondly, it is divided into three: scriptural authority, pith instructions, and logical proofs. In terms of scriptural authority, the Gongdü says: "These great bodhisattvas who dwell in the realm of Vajrasattva, because the nature of their minds is diverse, with very deep, not deep, vast, narrow, sharp, dull, fast, and slow situations, the secret mantra teachings are heard gradually or simultaneously." The Kunjed Gyalpo says: "The faculties of gods and humans are not the same. Some have decisive faculties from the beginning. Some have progressive faculties through practice." In terms of pith instructions, the Lamrim says: "Because there are three kinds of accomplishment without practice, high, stable, fast, sharp, vast, wide, and profound are the individuals with a basis." The Abhidharmakosha also says: "Some are of that lineage from the beginning, some are produced from practice." In terms of reasoning, there are three: refutation, establishment, and elimination. First, Lhaje Darnak says: "The mind-stream of sentient beings, you have sharp faculties established from the beginning, because various habitual patterns have been accumulated on the alaya consciousness." This is unreasonable, because establishing habitual patterns on the alaya consciousness requires relying on the practice of hearing and contemplating the causes and conditions, so it violates the vow of self-nature. Second, the secret lord Söphukpa said: "The mind-stream of sentient beings, you have sharp and dull faculties established, because the nature of the mind is diverse, like the sharpness and dullness of iron." This is a combination that is free from faults. Third, some say: "If sharpness and dullness are established from the beginning, then the basis becomes good and bad, so it is unreasonable." In response, Je Nyeton and Zurkhö said: "Does the essence of the basis become good and bad, or does the reverse become good and bad?" If it is the former, because it is an observation of the intelligence that enters sharpness and dullness, there is no pervasion. If it is the latter, it is exactly what is desired, because from the goodness and badness of the reverse, various phenomena of samsara and nirvana arise. Lhaje Nupchen said: "The basis does not become good and bad, because in ultimate truth, no sharp or dull faculties are established. In conventional truth, there are various sharpness and dullness."
