Or, considering that attachment to wrong philosophical views becomes an obstacle to correct views, and that one is temporarily not qualified to attain liberation, it is said to be a lineage extinction. As it says in this very text, due to attachment and speculation based on ignorance of self, one is separated from the correct path. And in the commentary on 'The Realm of Dharma Pervades All,' it says that due to the cause of severance—ignorance—the eye of wisdom is blinded, and just like in an example, it is originally inverted, and one is lost in one's own continuum, which is the place of lineage extinction. It also arises from the decay of the root and branches, and it is only said to be prolonged for a long time. Some say that up to 'being lost is the place of lineage extinction' is the scriptural proof for establishing self-nature lineage extinction, but it is not. If that were the case, the word 'also' in 'also from the decay of the root and branches' would indicate that the root is to become without lineage. In this way, severance by conditions also becomes self-nature lineage extinction. Therefore, the meaning of those scriptural proofs of the root commentary is that they only consider severance by conditions, and it is only said to be prolonged for a long time. This is clear. The third is the indefinite lineage, which means that depending on the power of conditions, the mind can be born anywhere. The text says, 'Not determined in which vehicle it is taught.' Among them, there are two types of indefinite lineages: good and bad. The first is the good lineage, which can understand without hindrance no matter which vehicle is taught. The text says, 'Or, harmonizing with all, it enters into loving-kindness.' The second is the bad indefinite lineage, which enters all vehicles but cannot reach the end of definite knowledge. The text says, 'Or, it is impossible to determine what this is.' The second is that those who have not had their minds changed by philosophical views before believe that in the fruition vehicle, one is born either from those with sharp faculties who are determined by lineage or from good people of indefinite lineage. The Stages of the Path says, 'From indefinite to related causes and conditions, possessing and combining supreme yoga.' The Small Stages of the Path says, 'Because of the connection of nature, from the very beginning, entering here is possible in a definite sense.' The second is that it arises from the four stages of the path, namely gods and humans, hearers and self-realizers, bodhisattvas, and outer tantras, proceeding sequentially, or entering here after combining with any of them. This is also the Stages of the Path.
