There are four pas. Also, as it says in the Ocean: Differentiate the path by the difference of lineage, Five and one transform cause and effect, The uncertain common difference is, Four are the common paths of definite arising. So it says. The second is: Combining the three divisions of the outer tantras into one, as it says in that very text: Likewise, one lineage is not common, Because it appears both externally and internally, It is a common path dependent on the external. So it says. The fifth is: Does the common path become a special path or not? If it becomes a special path, then there is no difference between the common and the special, because the common path also becomes a special path. If it does not become a special path, then the common vow is broken. The answer is: Because it is not actually a special path, there is no previous fault. Depending on the gradual, it is applied in advance as just a stepping stone on the path, so there is no later fault either. As it also says in the Commentary on the Eye: The nature goes before, And intentionally goes before comparison. Therefore, it is the common path of manifest realization. So it says. Second, regarding the special path, there are six aspects: necessity, essence, meaning of the words, division, determination, and which should go first. The first is: It has two functions, why? Because "manifesting nature" means that it is necessary to know the basis, as it says in this very text: Relying on the collection of words named by letters and sounds, The words express it well, Bringing out the hidden meaning from within. So it says. It is also necessary to manifest the fruit to be obtained, as it says in this very text: Wonderful miraculous and amazing dharmas, They do not come from elsewhere, But the wisdom that relies on skillful means, Arises in such a state. So it says. The second is: The arising of the five special minds. Regarding this, as it says in the Ocean: The place of birth, the way of birth by conditions, The nature of what is born, the order of minds. Therefore, it shows the basis of where it arises, the causes and conditions by which it arises, the way in which it arises, and the nature of the one who arises. The first is: As it says in that very text: It changes from the basis and the occasion, It is explained in detail as the path at the end of liberation. Therefore, the mind arises from the basis, the path, and the fruit. First, it explains the three lineages of the basis, and identifies the ground from which it arises. First, there are three: definite lineage, cut-off lineage, and uncertain lineage. The first is: Entering the order of vehicles in accordance with one's own intelligence.

Therefore, it is certain that the mind does not turn to other places. As stated in the 'Extensive Text': 'The unsurpassed Great Vehicle is inconceivable, it only appears in one's own mind.' Classifying this, there are three types of beings: Hearers, Solitary Realizers, and Bodhisattvas. The second is, as stated therein: 'Although the Dharmadhatu pervades all, if one does not have the opportunity to realize self-awareness, it is like showing colors to a blind person, this is a person of severed lineage without opportunity.' For a while, the opportunity for liberation is cut off. The classification is: refuting the belief that there is a lineage of self-nature severance, and proving that the lineage is severed due to temporary circumstances. The first is, some scholars say: The mindstream of a person, has the characteristic that you have a lineage severed by self-nature, because you do not have the opportunity to realize self-awareness, like showing colors to a blind person. If so, it would be absurd to fall into the basis of self-nature having good and bad, therefore it is unreasonable. The Lord Maitreya said: 'Because the Dharmadhatu has no difference, lineages cannot be different.' And, in the 'Six Successive [Practices]': 'All dharmas without exception, should be viewed as having the essence of Bodhi, self-nature is originally clear light, proclaimed by Samantabhadra Vajrasattva.' Because it is proclaimed that all sentient beings have the essence of Bodhi, it is contradictory. The opponent says: That fault does not occur, because here it is said that the lineage cannot arise all at once due to unfavorable conditions, so it is said that it does not have the opportunity, it is self-nature severance, I do not think that even the seed of Bodhicitta is not in the mindstream of sentient beings. If so, even if faith does not arise for a while, white imprints are left on the Alaya Consciousness, and it may become the cause of the lineage awakening sometime in the future. Therefore, it is not certain that it is self-nature severance. As stated in the 'Extensive Sutra': 'Even if some sentient beings do not believe in the Tathagata due to karmic obscurations, the roots of virtue that they see and hear will be meaningful until Nirvana.' Moreover, 'like showing colors to a blind person' is also not a metaphor for self-nature. If it can be used as a metaphor, then the surgery performed by an ophthalmologist will become meaningless in all cases. The second is, because the thick imprints of self-nature imputation have been obscured for a long time, it cannot be seen for a long time.
