is non-different. The third is, the non-difference of non-duality in one, the non-difference of negating the two extremes, the three non-differences of essence. The first is, the Mind-Only School's ultimate truth, the wisdom of non-duality of grasping and grasper, self-aware and self-illuminating. The second is, the Madhyamaka School's ultimate truth that is not a synonym. The third is, the Secret Mantra School's tenet of the union of appearance and emptiness. Fourthly, there are three aspects: essence, definition, and the manner of surpassing by nature. The first is, in the causal vehicle, the two truths become alternatingly established, so the essence falls into denigration. Here, appearance and emptiness are decided simultaneously, so because it does not fall into denigration, the essence surpasses. A is emptiness and non-emptiness, even Madhyamaka is not an object of observation. So it is said. The second is, the ultimate non-difference of the cause is considered to be established in the face of investigative intelligence, so the definition can be grasped. Here, because it is separated from the object of the mind, the definition is not one-sided, so it surpasses by definition. In the second conventional truth, thought and expression are transcended. So it is said. The third is, the two truths of the cause become divided into existence and non-existence by nature. Because the appearance and emptiness of mantra are non-different, it surpasses by nature. In the Stages of the Path, it is said, "Naturally, it is spontaneously non-different." So it is said. Incidentally, The remaining debate refutation is: If that is the case, the appearance of nature will become three, because the situation is established that way. If you say that, then the reason is not established. If you say it is because it is established there, although it is mentally fabricated and established as three in order to realize that nature, what is the use if it does not become that way? It is not pervasive, so said Nyangtikpa. Also, some say that when appearance arises and ceases, emptiness also becomes arising and ceasing, because the essence of appearance and emptiness is one. In response, the wise Gelang said, "Appearance changes and ceases, but the essence does not change." If that is the case, since arising and ceasing and not arising and ceasing are contradictory phenomena, does appearance and emptiness become not one essence? If you ask this, then impermanence and conditioned phenomena also become not one essence, because when impermanence changes and ceases in an instant, the substance of the conditioned phenomenon that is one essence with it does not arise and cease. For example, just as in the second instant of the consciousness grasping a pot, the continuum of the substance of the pot is not interrupted. Also

That which is beyond expression and beyond the realm of mind, can it be ascertained through study and reflection? If it can, then it diminishes the state beyond the realm of mind; if it cannot, then the arguments for ascertaining it in this way become meaningless. The answer to this is that realizing the self-nature of reality ultimately liberates one from the duality of knower and known, so it is not that one knows nothing, because the self-nature of realization is beyond the reach of any mind. The labor of arguing is meaningless. Even so, does an ordinary person's mind have a definite understanding of realization? Although there is no definite understanding of self-nature, through profound language and words, one can express the meaning beyond the realm of mind, and a rough understanding that is consistent with it will arise, so the determination is not meaningless. For example, when using the mind to measure the vastness of space, although it can be determined through various concepts such as boundaries, center, shape, color, one and many, it is impossible to determine its own characteristics other than understanding other elements. Similarly, here, although the inseparability of appearance and emptiness is explained in detail, what is ultimately to be expressed is the reality that cannot be spoken. Initially, one only roughly understands its meaning, and ultimately one realizes its self-nature as it is, so the seemingly contradictory dharmas are actually not contradictory, and these are proven through scriptural authority. These cannot be proven solely through the study of terminology, because no matter how one describes the unspeakable meaning, one will ultimately not be able to abandon the clinging mind. Therefore, even the omniscient one will be difficult to express due to the lack of language. As the Samadhiraja Sutra says: "Appearance and non-appearance, etc., all dualistic grasping are extremes, all-knowing ones do not abide in the middle either." And Shantideva also said in the Bodhisattvacharyavatara: "If in reality there is no other dharma, what is the difference between this and that? If nothing is obtained in that, what can be established by saying?" Also, in the Lamp for the Correct View by the teacher Jnyanapala, it is said: "Just as space can be spoken of with names and words, but it is without characteristics and free from elaboration, it is the realm of the mind of self-nature." And in his Treatise on True Meaning, it is said: "How, from the method of practice, can one truly establish the firm dharma, dharma does not enter into dharma, no matter how profound the words spoken, they will not be consistent with the meaning." However, it is not that there is no method of realization through the wisdom of individual observation, as the Samadhiraja Sutra says: "Dharma without letters"
