The basis of intrinsic nature and the basis for examining delusion, these two. The first: identifying its own characteristics and establishing them. The first: object, proof, and incidental measure, these three. The first is: self-awareness, the mind of enlightenment, merely abiding in the state of being free from the extremes of the nature of knowable objects. From that: "The characteristics are free from all extremes, and nothing can be grasped." So it is said. The second is: there are three all-pervasive reasons. Among them, the scriptural authority is: In the Extensive Text, it says: "All is self-aware Bodhicitta. This is said to be the measure of scripture." So it is said. The instruction is: In the Garland of Views, it says: "All phenomena abide in the mind." And in the Extensive Commentary on the Yoga Eye Meditation, it says: "All phenomena are the wisdom of self-awareness, clear in the knowledge of their own nature, unobscured by anything. In the non-dual, such a characteristic cannot be expressed." So it is said. The reasoning is: All phenomena included in the three paths of samsara, nirvana, and the path are the subject. It is the self-aware Bodhicitta, because all are contained in the mind. Since there is no other phenomenon other than the mind, it is like going to the precious golden island. Some say that these appearances as objective substances are not valid because they are established apart from consciousness. They say: Then, there is no relationship of one entity between object and consciousness, because the entities are not the same, like a pillar and a pot. There is also no relationship of arising from that, because it is impossible for a material substance to arise from mere awareness that is unattached and unobstructed, like space and a lotus. If you think there is no relationship like that, then it is not reasonable for objects to appear from consciousness, because there is absolutely no relationship between object and consciousness, like the eye and sound. It is not possible to think so, because it is contradicted by direct perception. Therefore, no other phenomenon other than the mind is established, because it is experienced when objects and so on appear, like the appearance of a dream, and because it appears spontaneously as the mind controls it, like the appearance of becoming accustomed to exhaustion. Thus, in the Extensive Text, it also says: "The nature of the alaya consciousness itself appears as various objects." And: "All these appearing phenomena are not phenomena with substance, but only the non-conceptual, self-aware, clear light of consciousness." And: In the Lamrim (The Stages of the Path)

Śa, because there is no dharma apart from the mind. Illusory Vajra, the Victorious One. Thus, in the "Lamp Dispelling the Darkness of the Extremes" by the teacher Glorious Melodious Voice, it says: All dharmas are the illusion of the mind, there are no dharmas apart from the mind. Thus, it is also stated in the common scriptures, in the Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra: Just as children imagine external objects to exist, but they do not, the mind stained by habitual tendencies arises as objects of meaning. Also, in the Daśabhūmika Sūtra, it says: O sons of the Victorious Ones, these three realms are only mind. Also, in the Sixty Stanza Reasoning, it says: The explanation of the great elements, etc., is completely contained within consciousness. These are established as all dharmas being self-appearances through common reasoning, and the establishment of being free from extremes through uncommon reasoning will be explained below. Third, if the appearances of ordinary beings are taken as the basis of the nature of reality as they are, since the knowable is the object without error, the consciousness of ordinary beings will also become a valid cognition, like the direct perception of the noble ones. If it is not the basis of the nature of reality, then this illusory appearance will not be a pervasive object of suchness, because the entities are different, like a pillar and a pot. In response, the wise one said: From the perspective of appearance, suchness is self-appearing, so it is suchness, but from the perspective of clinging, it is not, because it relies on different bases. Je Nyariwa said: At the time of realization, there is nothing that does not become the basis, and this illusory appearance of non-realization is not. However, both of these are not well thought out. If, as in the first case, appearance and clinging are of the same essence of mind, then since there are two contradictory aspects of appearance and non-appearance in one entity, clinging will also become self-appearing suchness, and if they are different, then when clinging and illusion are abandoned, it will follow that appearance and illusion are not abandoned. If, as in the second case, realization depends on conditions, then it will not be the appearance of self-nature, and if it does not depend, then the difference between the time of realization and non-realization will break the commitment to consider the basis as being or not being. So what is it? Self-nature is completely suchness, appearances are not mixed with illusion, and there is no difference in essence, it is called: In the Gong Dü (Collected Intentions) it says: Anger does not mix with tormenting the mind, it is completely empty self.
