It does not come from elsewhere, but the wisdom that relies on skillful means arises in such a state. As the Extensive Commentary says: "Since cause and effect are not originally sequential, the result becomes the path and they are united simultaneously." Thus it is. Likewise, regarding the outer tantras, the Stages of the Path says: "Wisdom arises through the method of action, the number of ritual branches is complete, the result becomes the path because of the Sugata." Thus it is. Regarding the inner [tantras], "There is nothing else to be attained from this, all are already ripened, there is nowhere to go, this is the very nature of the path." Thus it is said. Furthermore, the former masters consider that there is a difference between being able to use the conventional as the path and not being able to. The perfections take the ultimate as what is to be attained and the conventional as what is to be abandoned, but in mantra, even in the conventional, one practices the equality of all dharmas, so one does not abandon it but uses it as the path, and is superior because one does not fall to the side of the two truths. The Stages of the Path says: "Within the unsurpassable vehicle, in the ultimate there is no difference, in the conventional all dharmas are grasped as pure and impure. The great vehicle of skillful means, purification and suffering, are also not different in the conventional, the view is only higher or lower." Thus it is. By this method, the result can also become the path, because one sees all dharmas as the nature of the inseparable result, the dharmakaya of appearance and emptiness united, and one becomes accustomed to it through skillful means. Thus, the Extensive Commentary says: "The world, moving and unmoving, etc., has no essence in its appearance, that is the great body of dharma." Thus it is. That is, the outer mantra practitioners meditate by viewing the deity as body, speech, and mind, and the inner practitioners realize and become accustomed to all dharmas as the nature of the mandala of body, speech, and mind, so the definition of result as path and Vajrayana is established. As the Treasury of the Magical Key says: "The result, the Vajrayana, takes the mandala of hand gestures as the path, the result itself is taken as the path, one's own body, speech, and mind, are united with the vajra of body, speech, and mind, that kind is called Vajrayana." Thus it is. There is also another difference, as the Three Lights says: "Not confused about one meaning, many skillful means without difficulty, empowered by sharp faculties, mantra."

The vehicle of mantra is particularly superior. It is said that although both the great vehicles of cause and effect aim at benefiting sentient beings and desiring enlightenment, mantra is superior with four distinctions: not being confused about the aspects of means such as visualizing deities and reciting mantras; and also, the aspects of means are not just one path, but many because of the limitless doors of tantras such as action and conduct that are in accordance with the order of faculties; and also, these do not need to be traversed with difficulty for countless eons like the path of cause, but are accomplished with little effort, so there is no difficulty; this is said considering that the actual trainees of the mantra vehicle are those with sharp faculties, so it is superior in these four ways. Furthermore, Jamyang Kunga Dorje distinguishes the differences between the basis of what is to be known, the path of what knows, and the result of what is to be obtained, and explains the reason for superiority. Also, Nubchen says in his self-commentary on the meditation of the yoga eye that the inner mantra of Hevajra is superior to the Paramita by twelve distinctions. The masters Zur Chungpa and Rog Deshek Chenpo extensively explained the differences in how to establish the view, the tenets established, how to practice, when to obtain the result, and the nature of the result itself, but here I will not elaborate due to fear of the length of the text. Secondly, it says in this very text, "The unsurpassed vehicle," which means, as the extensive commentary says, "The king of self-awareness who realizes equality, just as all rivers flow into the great ocean, the limitless vehicles of liberation are all gathered in these great means that realize the unsurpassed meaning." As it is said, if we divide it, there are the vehicle of the outer Tirthika tantras and the vehicle of the inner Buddhist means tantras. Although the views of the ancient scholars differ greatly on the differences between these two, here, the intention of the four pillars of the heart sons is summarized by Je Drophukpa and explained in five ways. The first is the difference in view: in the mantra vehicle, whoever realizes the nature of mind as the great self is the inner, and whoever does not realize it is the outer. As it says in the Lamrim Namdak of Indrabhuti: "Those who consider the three families as five families, because they have not realized the great self, I say are common and equal." So it is said. The second is the difference in how to obtain siddhis: those who rely on the wisdom deity and abide by the command to request siddhis are the outer.
