Five distinct determinations, eleven virtuous qualities, six root afflictions, twenty secondary afflictions, four variable factors, thus, out of the fifty-one mental factors, excluding feeling and perception, there remain forty-nine. In most treatises, the exposition of the five aggregates begins with the form aggregate. Why is it that here, consciousness is mentioned first? Because phenomena such as form are merely the play of the mind and nothing else. Therefore, mind itself is taken as the principal, and consciousness is mentioned first. In the context of deities, it is also associated with Akshobhya, the main deity of the mandala. Considering deities and conceptual thoughts as similar is because consciousness is the essence of mind, so the lineage of mind is Akshobhya; form is directly in accordance with the body, so the lineage of body is Vairochana; feeling is the basis for regarding objects as enjoyment, so it is the lineage of qualities, Ratnasambhava; perception is the essence of grasping at characteristics, applying names to external and internal phenomena, communicating through action, so it is the lineage of speech, Amitabha; and volition is the essence of action, so it is the lineage of activity, Amoghasiddhi. As it is said: "Form is indeed Vairochana, feeling is Ratnasambhava, perception is Amitabha, volition is Amoghasiddhi, and consciousness is Akshobhya," as it is stated in the Yeshe Drubpa Tantra. Those who Consider the Tathagata, the king of consciousness, to be Vairochana, is not so. In the Vajra Sequence, it says: "Consciousness is the nature of space, because it is mind, its nature is unborn, arising from the nature of the father and mother Akshobhya." Therefore, it is contradictory. The five impure aggregates with eighty limbs, appearing as samsaric phenomena, are these alone the five Buddha families? It is not so. Because the impure aggregates and the collection of conceptual thoughts are objects to be purified, without inherent existence, and are temporary appearances, they cannot be the five Buddha families. For example, when someone with an eye disease sees a conch shell as yellow, that yellow is not the true nature of the conch shell's color. Therefore, considering conceptual thoughts and deities as similar is also a skillful means to directly lead those who are strongly attached to objects to generate the wisdom that deities and conceptual thoughts are inseparable.

This is just a rough explanation. So, is it that from the impure aggregates of thoughts, etc., another five families of Buddhas are accomplished? That is not the case either. Because the basis of those appearances, the nature or original five aggregates, are originally completely pure as the five families of Buddhas. This itself manifests through the causes and conditions of the path and is established as the result. Therefore, it cannot be said to be different from the aggregates of thoughts. It is like when an eye disease is cured by medicine and becomes pure, the conch that was previously seen as yellow appears as white. Apart from that, one cannot look for another white color. The reason why all five families are called "King" is that, for example, just as kings rule and enjoy their own kingdom, defeat other armies, and make their own armies victorious, the mind governs the aggregates of thoughts of self-aware wisdom. Because of mastering the undefiled Dharma, they enjoy great bliss, and by governing the kingdom of Dharma, they cause the army of the two obscurations and their habitual tendencies in the minds of the beings to be completely defeated, and the army of merits such as the two accumulations to be victorious. The reasons for the individual names such as Akshobhya are also that the wisdom of the minds of all Tathagatas cannot be moved by any internal or external causes, therefore the unchanging Vajra family is Akshobhya. The body, although not moving from Suchness, appears in various forms, therefore the Tathagata family is Vairochana. The qualities become the place for accomplishing the two benefits, therefore the Ratna family is Ratnasambhava. The speech spreads the great light of Dharma in the world without attachment, therefore the Padma family is Amitabha. The activity completely accomplishes the benefit of beings, therefore the Karma family is Amoghasiddhi. As the Vajrakarodaya Tantra says: "The body is unconditioned Suchness, the mind is the unchanging Vajra family, the qualities are the source of all things, the Ratna family, the speech is the non-attached Padma family, accomplishing the meaning is the Karma family." That is to say, because there is a definite understanding of how the five result-Dharmas obtained their names, therefore, the five emanations (the expounders) of the individuals who manifest with the mudra of skillful means for taming beings are also like that.
