Therefore, the mind, which has the characteristic of manifest activity, has fifty-one divisions: five omnipresent, five object-specific, eleven virtuous, six root afflictions, twenty secondary afflictions, and four variable. Thus, of the fifty-one mental factors, the remaining forty-nine, after subtracting feeling and perception, are the aggregate of formation. Someone asks: What is the reason for separating feeling and perception from the five omnipresent as aggregates? Answer: It can be explained, as it is said in the Treasury of Knowledge: "Because it is the root of dispute, because it is the cause of samsara, because it turns in sequence, among the mental factors, feeling and perception are separately established as aggregates." Therefore, by counting in this way, the five aggregates become eighty branches, as it is said in the Spar Khab: "They themselves possess eighty branches, and are known as the five complete Buddhas." Someone asks: In other treatises, the aggregate of form is mentioned first in the order of the aggregates, but why is consciousness mentioned first here? Answer: It can be explained, this is to show that this treatise surpasses the common vehicle that has become external, as it is said in the commentary of Sunlight Lion: "Outsiders consider the coarse objects of grasping to be the main thing, but here, the root of grasping, consciousness, is considered the main thing. Therefore, it is not contradictory, and the Great Vehicle is considered to be the teaching of the Buddha." Therefore. Second, how is it explained that it is purified into a deity? What is it like? When explaining this, there are two things: refuting the views of others and establishing one's own views. The first is: Lord Khonston said: "The consciousness in this case is not the eight consciousnesses, but the five sense consciousnesses. If it is considered to be the eight consciousnesses, then in the continuum of the immovable one, because there is the alaya consciousness, it would lead to the fault of not being an arhat, and because there is afflicted mind, it would lead to the fault of not being a person who has abandoned the two obscurations." Although it is said like this, it is only in accordance with the common treatises, and it is very unreasonable here. It is absurd that the Thubpa of hell does not have hatred in your continuum, because you are a person who has abandoned hatred, because you are a noble Buddha. Therefore, it is the same for all thoughts.

It is unreasonable. It also contradicts the scriptures, because "All without exception are of the nature of Dharma, not other than the Buddha himself." And in the Extensive Commentary, it says: "The king of consciousness is the glorious Vajrasattva, the completely pure Alaya-consciousness." When it is not completely pure, it is the root of all the dharmas of samsara, and when it is completely pure, it is the root of all the dharmas of nirvana. Therefore, in this system, the Alaya-consciousness itself is the wisdom of the Dharmadhatu, and is therefore not considered something to be abandoned or cultivated, because it has transcended bondage and liberation. In one's own commentary, it also says: "The limbs of the Vajra-body are." When citing the limbs, it contradicts the count of eighty, because subtracting the Alaya-consciousness and the afflicted mind, no eight concepts arise. Second, establishing one's own system: the nature of the five aggregates of conceptual collections is the five families as they are, especially when the result of the five Buddhas of the pure lineage is manifested and perfected, or when such concepts are transformed by the wisdom of self-awareness of the mind, and one possesses the uncontaminated Dharma and enjoys great bliss, therefore it is called a king. If someone asks: Why does this text not mention the names of deities, but mention the names of concepts? The answer is: Some lamas say that here it says king, and below it says great, etc., therefore mentioning the names of concepts is not established, just as saying nirvana does not mean calling the Buddha by the name of nirvana. The truth is this: even in the impure state of samsara, the conceptual collections are naturally pure, therefore it is said in the tantras of Secret Mantra that the mandala of body and wisdom is complete, and it also appears in the profound sutras of definitive meaning, such as in the Gandavyuha Sutra: "Form, feeling, perception, volition, and consciousness, are countless Tathagatas, they can become great sages." And in the Maitreya Lion's Roar Sutra, it also says: "If you want to make offerings to the Tathagata, you should make offerings to yourself." And in the Vimalakirti Sutra, it says: "He who sees me as a collection of fears is the Tathagata."
