Second, if the root is not grasped, then train in short sessions: Before those three signs appear, do not move, the samadhi of the left nostril is not stable, even if broken, no trace is seen. Cut into short sessions, train, tighten fiercely, and quickly release. Third, during the time of conduct, carry in segments: In all walking, moving, sleeping, and sitting, maintain by remembering the experience of the root. Hold by reciting the syllable phaṭ (藏文, Devanagari, phaṭ, meaning "cut"), hold in segments, carry without support, and engage in conduct. Fourth, when proficient, carry continuously: The root is mastered, the antidote subsides. When samadhi is mixed, there is no need to include holding and training in the training session, abide continuously in the unfabricated natural experience. Just grasp with mindfulness, there is nothing else to do. If distracted, there is no need to hold with methods, just by remembering, the root will be found. Therefore, when incorporating into training: Clear: break when coarse. Good: interrupt when coarse. Diligent: mix with conduct when coarse. Abiding: do not prolong. Experience: carry in segments. Post-meditation: practice without support. Third, to enhance with training, there are also four, first, upward training: Throw awareness into the form and formless realms, train, clearly visualize and hold all the abodes of the gods. Then break with the antidote. In this way, one will not be attached to the bliss of the higher realms, because the enjoyments of the gods all appear as self-nature free from elaboration. Second is downward training: Clearly visualize the three lower realms, stir awareness, and train. Then break with the antidote. In this way, one will not be afraid of the suffering of the lower realms, because realizing that the suffering of the lower realms is all self-nature free from elaboration. Third is to train awareness in the four directions and eight intermediate directions: Let awareness not stay for a moment, let it run to various objects. Then break with the antidote. In this way, an inconceivable experience of self-nature will arise, therefore realizing that all appearances of objects are free from elaboration. Fourth is naked awareness training: Awareness has no support, stir in the absence of objects, move without aim. Even so, if the root is not grasped, there are four methods of cutting off awareness. First is insertion: Temporarily hold in empty space. Then is turning the face: Fiercely stir without support. Then is determining the source: Awareness is equal to the edge of space.
