I am writing. In reality, everything is subject to the law of impermanence (འཆི༵་བ༵འི་ཆོས༵་ཅན༵,梵文天城体:maraṇa-dharma,梵文罗马拟音:marana-dharma,meaning: law of death). And it is uncertain when one will die. Although one understands that the causes of death are many and the causes of survival are few. But still, one wonders whether I will die or not. Thinking that there is a greater chance of not dying is because the mind has already leaned towards the side of not dying. At the time of death, saying things like "What should I do, do you know?" to lamas and others is what ordinary householders, both men and women, would say. If lamas and monks, especially practitioners, were to say these things, think about what it would be like, it is all because they have not remembered impermanence. Even when Jetsun Milarepa had attained the realization of being able to spend many years with a single session of meditative absorption, Lhodrak Marpa (ལྷོ་བྲག་མར་པ,Lhodrak Marpa) sent him to his homeland to remind him of impermanence, and as a result, his practice progressed even more than before. Nowadays, even when lamas teach impermanence, it is only as a branch, and students also take it that way when they practice, still pretending to be something great, whether it is oneself or others. If this realization is good, the practice is good. If this realization is bad, the practice is bad. Whether the realization of other paths arises or not depends entirely on this, so it is very important. Like this, repeatedly contemplate, and if a good certainty arises, do not let it disappear, but continue it, and again transform it with dedication and aspiration. During breaks between sessions, do not let the mind wander, but only contemplate the way of thinking about impermanence (བས༵མ་ལུག༵ས). The changes of time, the rising and setting of the sun and moon, the aging and youth, how many people are born and die in one place, etc., by inferring from these, one will definitely be subject to it, generate such certainty. And, if things go well, there are still a few years, if things go badly, tonight or tomorrow morning, there is no certainty of not dying. At the beginning of a session, if one does not remember that impermanence will definitely change the mind, then that session will not become a resource for the next life. When getting up in the morning, also think about not forgetting what to practice. Check whether you forgot tonight, etc., remember it from beginning to end. In general, the so-called guidance is to guide the mind, guiding the body is useless. Guiding the speech is useless, so taming the mind is important. No matter what dharma you practice, or whether you are in session or not, you must make a vow that this time, relying on this, even if you die, it will be worth it, otherwise you will never turn back. Many people want to practice dharma, but few complete it, this is because of lack of diligence, and because of this regression, whether it is due to one's own causes or other causes, one cannot.

There needs to be a shift. Practicing Dharma is not like being bound by law; don't place your hopes on others, but rather put your own reins on your own head and don't compare yourself to others. For example, if a great enemy is sure to come within a few years, even if suddenly attacked, it would be like thinking of methods, force, etc., and being caught unprepared. Death is also like that; you must have a belief, thinking that if I die tonight, I will die in this way. Moreover, this cannot be achieved merely by pursuing high positions; there must also be prayers, mind training, and practices such as generation and completion stages that are in accordance with your own capacity. If you have not reached a point where you don't forget even in your dreams at night, then the mind at the time of death will be very unclear, and when tormented by intense death pains, you will truly be unable to newly recall beneficial key instructions. Can you endure the crucial moment of death? Now, if you have a headache for a day, see if it affects your virtuous actions for better or worse. In the affairs of this life, even if you don't have the ability yourself, you can ask other friends for help, but in this matter of death, there are no friends, you must face it alone, so be brave. To see if the vulture's head is well, you must look at this. If a fire breaks out on the head of a beautiful woman, it's like putting down all work to put out the fire; the affairs of samsara never end, so it means you must put down unfinished business. Just as a guest won't say in a hotel, "I'll stay again tomorrow," or a patient on the verge of death won't say, "I'll stay again tomorrow," if such a thought arises, that is the degree to which impermanence (མི༵་རྟག༵་,अनित्य,anitya, impermanence) has arisen. What is meant by obtaining Dharma or not obtaining Dharma refers to whether it benefits the mind. If you know how to integrate many sutras and tantras into practice, what more needs to be said? Otherwise, if you grasp the key points of the practice of the complete path of both sutra and tantra, which is contained within the preliminaries and the main practice, there is no need to say much. When reciting these, it should not be merely verbal recitation, but also the mind should follow the words. If you do not combine recitation and contemplation, it is meaningless. (Note: In the Compendium of Topics, the Compendium of Matters, and the Letter to a Friend, there are six distinctions of heavy and light: heavy because it is done constantly, heavy because it is manifestly contrived, heavy through action, heavy because there is no antidote, heavy from the basis, and heavy by nature. There are four kinds of strength: strength from the perspective of the field...
