Regarding recitation: Although supervising the preservation of books is arduous, the benefits are also great. It is important to understand that neither of these two is entirely determined by motivation. In the scriptures, "broadleaf tree leaves and seeds" are used as an analogy for smallness, and "water tree and the five paths" are used as an analogy for lacking essence. Although it is said so, I don't quite understand. What are these three like, such as the water tree? Generally speaking, there are many kinds of trees, but the fruit of the broadleaf tree is very small. Nagarjuna said, "The limit of a mother is like the seed of a broadleaf tree. Even if rolled into a pill, the earth cannot bear it." It is said that this tree is found in places like Gyalrong. The water tree is, according to the Vinaya Source, "The aquatic born in the heart, with a seed in the center. The water tree is empty like a flower." Thus, it is used as an example of emptiness in the central channel. Although it seems like a flower without stamens, many saints consider it to be bamboo. Because a pregnant mule dies, and bamboo with fruit dries up, the absence of fruit is said to be without essence. The five paths are, generally speaking, there are four kinds of Asuras, but generally, in the Mindfulness Sutra, it says, "Asuras, animals, Naga animals." Thus, the six realms of beings are summarized as Asuras and animals, and they are considered the five paths of rebirth from the intermediate state. Regarding scriptures and other books, it is tiring to repair torn and scattered books with glue, etc. Is it okay to cremate or water-bury them with a pure intention? In the instructions for taking refuge, it is said, "Even for a single letter, one should have faith and respect with the concept of the Three Jewels." Therefore, each page of scriptures, etc., should be offered with respect, and even a single page of rare ancient books may be helpful to intelligent seekers at some point, so one should not cremate or water-bury them. However, Aryadeva, in order to purify the obscurations of the mind, said, "With a good intention, placing a shoe on the head of the Buddha, and others discarding it, both of these actions can obtain kingship." Therefore, whether there is fault in cremating or water-burying books depends on the goodness or badness of the motivation. When reciting the Medicine Buddha Sutra, etc., or performing offering ceremonies, even if it is not mentioned in the scripture, visualizing oneself as Avalokiteshvara

Oh Erung, like in ritual procedures, it is fine to practice purely according to one's own tradition, but for other kinds of sudden offerings, there is no fault even if you do not visualize yourself as the deity. This is because self-generation is not taught in the Action Tantra. It is acceptable to practice in that way, but in general, visualizing the deity is more meritorious. In the collected ritual texts of the Great Fifth Dalai Lama, the first three of the four offering sections do not have self-generation. What kind of system is this? In some great texts such as Guhyasamaja, it is said that ordinary beings cannot purify and increase [merit] in their ordinary form, so how should one practice to overcome being intoxicated by doubt? Although there is self-generation in special Action Tantras, there is no self-generation in ordinary Action Tantras, so even during recitation and so on, the deities of the mandala are invited to the front, and one meditates with the understanding that one is merely a member of their retinue. Therefore, I think that the Great Fifth Dalai Lama's ritual compilation, in which the first three of the four offering sections do not have self-generation, is based on this intention. Guhyasamaja is the Unsurpassed Tantra, so not only in the meditative equipoise of the Unsurpassed Tantra, but also in all post-meditation states, all appearances must be cultivated as the deity. Even if one does not meditate on a great deity, it is sufficient for the innate deity to perform the work of the torma, because the torma and so on must be yoga in between sessions. Many scriptures and their commentaries say that the roots of virtue must be accompanied by love, compassion, the mind of enlightenment, and pure view. Jowo Je Atisha also said that all virtuous actions not accompanied by love, compassion, and the mind of enlightenment are the work of demons. The Great Treasure Revealer, the King of Dharma's Secret Treasury also says, "Renunciation, the mind of enlightenment, and selflessness," and so on. Because I have little merit and no prior familiarity, I have never been able to understand the tantras. I have not found anyone to consult about these matters. For example, when offering a butter lamp to the Three Jewels, how should the object of offering be inseparably combined with love, compassion, the mind of enlightenment, freedom from elaboration, or selflessness? Please illustrate with that.
