After completing these rituals, to consolidate the vows, one should extensively proclaim them and accept them through a concise commitment. Having accepted them, one should diligently strive to learn the do's and don'ts of the vows and precepts properly. Furthermore, subsequent actions such as making offerings, inviting and dissolving the mandala, etc., should be performed according to their respective rituals. Fourth, regarding protecting what has been obtained (vows and precepts) from degenerating, there are three parts: teaching, explanation, and summary. First, the brief statement: "Explaining the method of protecting from degeneration." Therefore, merely initially obtaining the mantra precepts is not enough; one must protect them with a particularly strong intention to prevent them from degenerating. Because vows and precepts are the foundation of all mantra practice, if they degenerate, all practice will become meaningless. For example, if the life force ceases, all sensory functions will cease. Therefore, it is said in the Guhyagarbha Tantra: "In order to make mantra holders meaningful, this great vow is specifically proclaimed." This also depends on knowing the methods of protection, so they will be explained here. Second, the detailed explanation is divided into five aspects: the twenty-five modes of conduct, the precepts of the five families, the fourteen root downfalls, the branch heavy offenses, and especially the view of the Early Translation Great Perfection. First, regarding the twenty-five modes of conduct, there are two parts: teaching and explanation. The brief statement is: "The initial modes of conduct are from the Kalachakra." That is, these twenty-five modes of conduct, which are the components of the Vajrasattva vow that initially serve as the foundation for all vows and precepts, are spoken of in the Kalachakra. Like this: "Killing, untruth, and the wife of another should be avoided." Up to "Therefore, these are the twenty-five modes of conduct of the lords of existence." These are given after the descent of wisdom, meaning that even if one has not obtained the actual empowerment, as long as one has obtained the stages of the descent of wisdom, whether real or through mental visualization, one must protect these precepts. The detailed explanation is divided into five sets of five. First, avoiding the five sins: "Killing, lying, stealing, sexual misconduct, and drinking alcohol should be avoided, called the five trainings to be avoided." That is, not to mention killing even tiny creatures, even the thought of tormenting them for a moment should be avoided. And, lying with the intention of deceiving others according to one's own desires

Lying, stealing the possessions of others, including animals, engaging in sexual misconduct by lusting after women possessed by others, and becoming intoxicated by drinking alcohol, the source of wrongdoing, these five are like strong vajra chains that bind beings to the realm of samsara, destroying all happiness and virtue for oneself and others. Therefore, these, along with all related aspects, must be abandoned. If one is able to protect these five and desires to do so, one should practice the remaining twenty ascetic practices, hence they are called the five training precepts. Second, abandoning the five near sins: gambling, eating inappropriate food, speaking harsh words, learning the teachings of non-Buddhists and Asuras, these five are the five things that should not be done. That is to say, playing dice and knuckle-bones, eating food that is not appropriate, such as meat killed for consumption or for its value, which is not in accordance with the Dharma, speaking harsh words of various idle talks such as war and commerce caused by afflictions, seeking conduct and liberation by reciting the names of ancestors mentioned in the Vedas, and performing sacrifices with livestock is the Dharma of non-Buddhists, and not eating meat that died from other causes except for meat that one has killed oneself, and only consuming white clothes and bird drinks, etc., are barbaric religions belonging to the path of Asuras. Because these evil deeds cause the side of virtue to decline in the past, they are called the five near sins, which are not appropriate to do, so they should not be done. Third, abandoning the five killings: cows, children, men, women, and destroying stupas are called the five killings. That is to say, although these four killings in the first line are included in the previous harm, they are explained separately here in order to refute the fact that many non-Buddhists think that universal harm is a sin, but sometimes there are cases where it is considered good. For example, killing cows for sacrifices desiring heaven, killing children for worshiping mothers, killing men for human sacrifices, killing women for women, and killing the teachers of gods and humans, that is, destroying Buddha images, scriptures, and stupas.
