Thus it arises. As it says in the Ornament, "The mind arising with two meanings." In the commentary on this, Vasubandhu says, "The mind that focuses on two meanings is the arising of the mind." Therefore, here, the mind itself arises, so "arising of the mind" is said to be the main mind when explained as the one who arises; because the mind arises, "arising of the mind" is said to be the mental factor when explained as the one who is arisen. Rongton Chenpo said that both have the meaning of "arising of the mind." The Omniscient One said, "The mind is the wisdom that knows the nature of things, and if we analyze the differences of mental factors, then here, because the nature arises, the differences also arise along with it, just as the desire and so on of the arising of the mind are obtained along with it." Second, regarding the classification, there are three parts: general statement, detailed explanation, and summary. First, the brief general statement: "The classifications are known as the two traditions of Nagarjuna and Asanga, each with one to six, in pairs of two." This means that each of the two traditions has one to six groups, and that there are two each depending on the basis of classification, or the classification of aspiration and application bodhicitta. Second, the detailed explanation. It is divided into the classification between one and six groups, and the classification of the boundaries of the grounds. The first part is: "First, the essence of emptiness and compassion, two accumulations, the two trainings of conventional and ultimate, the three trainings of morality, concentration, and wisdom, the mind of accumulation, joining, and aspiration, the seven impure grounds, the pure higher intention, the three pure grounds, the ripening, great compassion, the abandonment of all obscurations, the minds of the Buddha grounds, and four, five are the five paths, six are the six perfections." Thus, there are six groups. First, the one group is: With respect to the bodhicitta that arises from the wisdom of realizing emptiness, and the compassion that arises for those who have not realized it, it is called the mind of the essence of emptiness and compassion. Second, the two groups are: With respect to the training of the accumulations of merit and wisdom, there are two; or from the distinction of the coarse arising from conventions and the subtle obtained by the nature of reality, there are two minds of conventional and ultimate. The Nirvana Sutra says, "By the difference of conventional and ultimate, there are two kinds of bodhicitta." Third, the three groups are: That which purifies is morality, that which abides is concentration.

Holding. The cause of liberation, relying on the three trainings of wisdom, there are three types of bodhicitta. Furthermore, based on the three types of precepts—the precepts of restraining discipline, the precepts of accumulating virtue, and the precepts of benefiting sentient beings—there are also three divisions. The four categories are: In the stages of the path of accumulation, the path of joining, as well as the seven impure grounds, the three pure grounds, and the Buddha ground, there are four types of bodhicitta, such as practicing with faith in sequence. As the Ornament of Clear Realization states: "Bodhicitta in the grounds, aspiration and higher thought, purity and maturation, likewise, the abandonment of obscurations." The five categories are: The five bodhicittas of the five paths of accumulation, joining, seeing, meditation, and no-more-learning. The Twenty Thousand Verse states: "The bodhicitta of the initial practitioner, the bodhicitta of complete purification, the bodhicitta of seeing the Dharma, the bodhicitta of liberation, the bodhicitta of inconceivability." The six categories are: Based on the six perfections, there are six bodhicittas. As it states: "The six bodhicittas that possess the six perfections, with what do they correspond?" Secondly: The twenty-two metaphors such as earth, gold, moon, fire, etc., are between the ten grounds divided by the boundaries of the grounds. As the Ornament of Clear Realization states: "Earth, gold, moon, and fire, treasure and source of jewels, ocean, vajra, mountain, medicine, friend, wish-fulfilling jewel, sun, naga, king, treasury, road, vehicle, adorned water, musical instrument, river, and clouds, are the twenty-two." The meanings symbolized by the twenty-two metaphors are as follows in order: aspiration, intention, higher intention, application, the ten perfections from generosity to wisdom, supernormal cognition, merit and wisdom, Dharma in harmony with the factors of enlightenment, great compassion and insight, retention and eloquence, the feast of Dharma, the one vehicle path, possessing the Dharmakaya, etc. Aspiration is like the earth, and being endowed with the Dharmakaya is like the clouds. The boundaries of the grounds are: the three, such as aspiration, are in the three paths of the path of accumulation. Application is in the path of joining. The ten perfections from generosity to wisdom are in the ten grounds included in the path of seeing and the path of meditation. The five from supernormal cognition to retention and eloquence are special.
