The eight samadhi absorptions of the form realm that are common to non-Buddhists, and the transcendental meditation, refer to the nine ultimate samadhi absorptions attained through the transcendental path, or the meditations of each of the three vehicles. In this regard, the Lankavatara Sutra states, "Childlike practice meditation, meditation that distinguishes the meaning well, and the Tathagata's virtuous meditation." The boundaries of these are explained in the Discipline Section as the samadhi of the form realm in the continuum of those who have not entered the path, the samadhi of the accumulation stage of entering the path, and the samadhi of the noble ones beyond the path of seeing. The method of how to meditate is as follows: Abandoning the busyness of places, friends, enjoyments, etc., and the distractions of the mind, sit in a secluded place with the posture of full lotus and balanced posture. "Focus the mind on the object, do not let it be distracted." Like that, focusing the mind on any virtuous object and remaining unwavering by conceptual thoughts, the samadhi arises where the appearance of the object is not obstructed, and the conceptual thoughts of grasping at it are pacified. After rising from that samadhi, until the seventh ground, there is still attachment to the grasper and the grasped, but beyond that, there is no difference in the nature of samadhi and post-samadhi. As the Uttaratantra states, "Always wise in accomplishing actions, burning like fire, even in peaceful meditation, always entering into samadhi." By meditating in this way, the appearance of elaboration subsides, and the joy and bliss born from meditation are attained within, which is the meditation of dwelling in bliss in the present dharma. When practicing the six perfections and other virtuous accumulations, focusing the mind on one point, or practicing exhaustive suppression, etc., and liberation, dharani, ocean of eloquence, etc., is the meditation of accomplishing qualities. Focusing the mind on one point for the benefit of sentient beings, or taming those to be tamed with the power of transforming at will with the mind of the actual practice of meditation, is the meditation of accomplishing the benefit of sentient beings. Sixth, Wisdom: Practice the profound wisdom of listening, contemplating, and meditating. The meaning of this phrase has three aspects. The essence is: the mind of excellent wisdom that possesses four characteristics and is able to distinguish all dharmas, which is virtuous and possesses seeds. The meaning of the word is: from the Sanskrit word "Prajñā," meaning wisdom, is the prefix "pra (前,先)" of "ཉེར་བསྒྱུར(近,upa)" plus "ཛྙཱ(jñā,智,智慧)" contained within.

Starting from the etymological meaning of "knowing" or "realizing," it means completely realizing or completely understanding. The object to be realized is the ultimate truth, and its excellence is the meditative wisdom of the noble ones' continuum. The meaning is to become its object of experience, that is, to realize or understand it, therefore it is wisdom. In terms of classification, as Nagarjuna said, "The cause of increasing wisdom is hearing, and if there is thinking and both, then meditation will also arise." Thus, it is divided into three. The wisdom arising from hearing, for the object of hearing, that is, the Buddha's scriptures and their commentaries, is inner science; in order to guide these disciples, as a branch, it is necessary to study the common fields of knowledge; in order to refute the arguments of other schools, it is necessary to study grammar and logic; in order to guide other beings, it is necessary to study crafts and medicine, that is, it is necessary to study the four fields of knowledge, because one must obtain the state of omniscience. As it is said, "If one does not master the five fields of knowledge, even the noble ones will not attain omniscience, therefore, in order to refute others, to subdue others, and to know everything oneself, one must strive for it." It is also said, "What the princes do not study, that does not exist anywhere." In particular, in order to thoroughly understand the meaning of the scriptures, it is necessary to measure them with methods such as direct interpretation and metaphor, but these need to be learned elsewhere. Here, wisdom is insight, it is the truth of ultimate reality, and the reasoning that establishes it has five great arguments: the analysis of essence is the absence of one and many, the analysis of cause is the diamond slivers, the analysis of effect is the arising and ceasing of existence and non-existence, the analysis of both cause and effect is the four-cornered arising and ceasing, these four are the reasoning that eliminates the extremes of imputation of existence. Because it depends on others, its own nature is not established, but it is not non-existent in convention, therefore, cutting off the proliferation of both existence and non-existence is the reasoning of dependent origination. Thus, through the five great arguments, all phenomena are established as the middle way free from extremes. Among them, there are two ways of cutting off proliferation: self-emptiness and other-emptiness. Self-emptiness is to say that the phenomena that appear, just as they appear, are empty of their own nature, therefore it is the ultimate truth of emptiness that negates existence.
