I bring forth from the state of self-nature, causing it to reside in the loins of another. The special remedy for the remainder of a special person is, as it is said: One who possesses shame, one who holds the sutras, one who holds the vinaya, one who holds the mothers, and with knowledge, confessing before one person, arises from the sangha residue. Thus it is said. Second, for the remedy of gross offenses, for a gross offense belonging to defeat that is heavy, six monks are needed. For a light one, five are needed. For a gross offense belonging to the sangha residue that is heavy, four are needed. For a light one, confession before one monk purifies it. Third, a relinquishment offense is, the substance upon which the offense arose, that is, having relinquished the object of attachment to another one day before, one should confess. Fourth, solitary offenses and so forth, one should confess before one monk by one's own name. In particular, one goes forth and confesses for the sake of the boundary of individual confession. In general, all offenses are the same, the faults of mind that have not appeared in body and speech, merely relying on the mind of repentance and restraint, one will be liberated from the offense. If it appears in body and speech, then one must remedy it individually. First, confessing the fault of concealment, then confessing the actual offense, and confessing the offense of not having remedied it despite the presence of a place for confession, etc., one must distinguish the names and types of each offense and be skilled in the method of remedy. In short, for offenses, one should strive daily to confess, repent, and restrain oneself, and if there are unpurified offenses at the time of death, one must confess and restrain oneself with body and speech. If that is not possible, then confessing with the mind will also purify it. In short, the sutra says: In the end, if the diligent one does not encounter the circumstances, it is like having done the deed. Therefore, it is said. Second, the method of blessing the incapable has two aspects. The first, what is done before entering the ranks of affairs, is that the offenses belonging to defeat and the sangha residue and below, those for whom punishment is necessary, if they have not been completed beforehand, or there is no place for confession, or due to circumstances such as disputes over offenses, those who were unable to confess at that time are considered purified merely by blessing them. By blessing, it becomes pure. Thus it is said. Second, blessing after entering the ranks of affairs is, because it is not appropriate to confess after gathering there, therefore whatever offense is remembered is a common

It is the blessing and, solely, the blessing of the activity of common prayer. Incidentally, for the restoration of a novice monk: There is no restoration for root vows and vows that are concealed. Unconcealed vows are practiced after receiving the precepts from the monastic community of monks. For transgressions of non-root vows, whatever offense occurs, state the name and type of that offense and confess it together in the presence of one monk. Except for the actual taking of vows and the blameless permissions, the remaining offenses are purified merely by mental restraint. For not abandoning wrong views, etc., the monastic community of monks should also perform strict actions. These actions should also be done for those who have taken ordination but have not yet received full ordination. As it is said. These are the actual basis of restoration, as well as the summarized basis that includes both time and non-time, and the meaning of the basis of practicing while residing in other places, etc., briefly summarized and explained. Thus, through the two methods of strictness and confession, the way to restore one's own downfalls has been explained. Now, the way to restore the downfalls of others, which arise from the basis of complete purification: For a person who has a basis for discussing downfalls and who is not subject to the prohibition of monastic division, a pure monk who is recognized by all the discussants, with the intention of placing them in restoration, at a time other than the summer retreat, examines in detail whether there is any ritual downfall among the four deteriorations of things, discipline, views, behavior, and livelihood, and then opens the occasion for discussion and engages in discussion. Having discussed in this way, how should it be handled? If they admit it, they are placed in restoration. If they despise it with the excuse of "I don't remember," then the opportunity to seek their own nature is given. If they despise it with falsehood, then they are expelled without seeing the offense. If they do not distinguish the occasion when discussing, then they are reproached with offense. If they do not listen, then they are punished with offense. If they cause unpleasant resistance to all the monastic community of monks, then they are admonished through discussion, remembrance, etc. If they still do not subdue, then the remainder of the instructions, as well as stopping offerings and prohibitions, are given. If all of these cannot achieve the goal, then they are expelled. Secondly, the restoration of disputes has three aspects: disputes of activity, disputes of the Dharma wheel, and the pacification of disputes other than these. The first is: speaking unlawful words within the same boundary...
