A monk with proper conduct and discipline should, apart from the abbot, have a saṅgha of minors as the object of division. Ultimately, other than the Buddha, the teacher Devadatta, and other than the true Dharma, Devadatta's five ascetic practices, if tolerated as a path and their precepts adopted, then it is a schism. Having split, one should not stay overnight in the same place, and it only exists in Jambudvipa. The division requires four monks and one divider, totaling nine. As for the time, it should not be when the teacher is residing or about to pass away, nor when the teachings have been harmed, but when a supreme pair has been appointed, occurring within the same boundary. The downfall here is a grave offense belonging to division, and the sin of immediate retribution. The remedy for this is as stated in the scriptures, that a supreme pair should reconcile it. For the former, confession and rejoicing should be done, and the Uposatha of accordance and the Uposatha of the fish day should be done together. The remaining remedies, such as bowls, etc., should be done according to the ritual. This division is not abandoned at the end of the recitation, but is regarded as a case of the saṅgha being divided. If the saṅgha becomes divided because of this, then the divider will incur immediate retribution. The fault of division is that from the time the saṅgha is divided until it is reconciled, none of the five paths will arise in the realm of one teacher. So it is said. Third, regarding disputes other than the above, there are two: the object of pacification and the means of pacification. The first includes: the essence, the cause, and the divisions. The first is: the quarrel that arises from clinging to resentment in the mind because of words spoken by others that are disagreeable. The second is: the internal cause is the clinging to self, and the external cause is the distorted clinging to the suchness of things, abandoning instructions, being accompanied by downfalls, and not giving consent to actions; these are the four causes of quarrels. The third division includes: four disputes that correspond to the order of the above four causes. For example, debating whether conditioned phenomena are permanent or impermanent is a dispute arising from debate; arguing about the giving, rejecting, and retaining of instructions is a dispute arising from not giving instructions; not admitting to speaking of downfalls is a dispute between the speaker and the one spoken about, a dispute arising from downfalls; due to the influence of these three disputes, not giving consent to actions such as the Uposatha, thus leading to dispute.

There are four types of disputes arising from actions. Second, pacifying disputes, there are two: Generally, natural pacification refers to the fact that the disputants die, or are subdued, or the dispute is naturally pacified by the power of the arising of special wisdom and compassion in the continuum. Second, the respective methods of pacifying disputes are, as stated in the root Vinaya: "Manifest, mindfulness, not intoxicated, likewise majority, suchness, like spreading grass, to act in accordance with commitment." Thus, the seven methods of pacifying disputes are established. Among them, disputes arising from dividing benefits are pacified by manifest and majority. Manifest has eight aspects: the disputant, the mediator, the basic Sangha, clarity and clarity of clarity, other Sangha, Vinaya holder, and the manifest of the elder with power. If the former cannot pacify, then the latter pacifies. Majority is, if manifest cannot pacify, then the Sangha distributes tokens, gives purity to the majority side, and pacifies. The pacification of disputes arising from non-selection is, for the person who has a fault to be accused of, pacify with manifest as before. At this time, for those who have no fault to be accused of, there are four types: accusing without basis, being accused by others on other basis, accusing after repentance, and accusing for what was done by a madman. Among them, for the first three, this person has mindfulness, therefore this person has no fault, thus performing four karmas, and subduing with mindfulness. For the fourth type, this person did not commit any offense when he was not mad, therefore there is no fault for the madman, thus performing four karmas, and subduing with not being mad. The pacification of disputes arising from offenses has two aspects: for those who do not recognize the nature of the offense, seeking suchness is given by performing four karmas. For those who recognize the nature of their own offense, there are also two aspects: only the accuser and the accused, without external involvement, are pacified by commitment. For those with external involvement, there are also two aspects: those related to a few individuals are subdued by manifest, and those related to all the Sangha are pacified by mutual humility like spreading grass, with all minds in harmony. Disputes arising from actions are directly pacified by giving to those who are in accordance with the action, and indirectly, all seven methods of pacifying disputes
