Generally, there are five bases for activities: the basis for the formation of activities, intention, the nature of activities, experience, and the time of formation. First, there are three: the Sangha, the performer of the activity, and the object to be accomplished. The first has three characteristics, as it is said: "Forty and twenty-two, twenty, twelve, eleven, ten and nine, eight, six, five, four are needed, activities are of eleven kinds." Thus, in the central region, for the ordination of nuns, forty are needed, twenty from the father's assembly and twenty from the mother's assembly, etc. The eleven kinds of activities each have the required number. They possess the qualities of being complete, such as not being absent and standing, and are free from two kinds of discord. Second, the performer of the activity, in general, needs to be complete and know the ritual; in particular, only knowing the ritual is sufficient. Third, the object to be accomplished is divided into activities for non-sentient beings and activities for sentient beings. The first is eight kinds, such as setting large and small boundaries. The second is divided into activities for householders and activities for renunciants. The first is five kinds, such as overturned bowls. The second is divided into activities for those who are not fully ordained and activities for those who are fully ordained. The first includes two kinds of activities: giving and activities that are prohibited by penalty. There is no activity of appointment here. The second, activities for those who are fully ordained, includes twenty-one kinds of giving activities, such as granting permission for houses, six kinds of appointment activities, such as appointing secret announcers, nine kinds of enforcement, ten kinds of admonishment, and four kinds of inclusion in the Sangha, totaling twenty-three kinds of discordant activities. Second, intention is divided into two: perception and motivation. The first, for activities concerning non-sentient beings and discordant activities, the perception of the Sangha is primary; for giving and appointment, the perception of the place is primary. The second is to act from the depths of one's heart. Third, the nature of activities is divided into nature and classification. First, the performer of the activity performs the ritual without error or omission and it is accomplished. Second, there are one hundred and one kinds of activities that a monk can perform. In the Vinaya, it is said, "How many activities do monks have? The close attendants are one hundred and one." And so on, "The activities of solicitation are twenty-four, the activities of solicitation and two are forty-seven, the activities of solicitation and four are thirty." Therefore, it is said. Fourth, experience is hearing the words of the activity and understanding their meaning. Fifth
