Thirty, only ninety, four confession offenses, one hundred and twelve misdeeds, totaling two hundred and fifty-three. Firstly, regarding the three aspects of teaching, explanation, and summary, the first is, "The four root downfalls of vows": This means that if a fully ordained monk, possessing vows, engages in any of these four and conceals it for even a moment, the remaining vows are completely severed, hence they are root downfalls. Because the opposing side is defeated by a powerless method, they are called the four downfalls. The definition is: any transgression of the vows of a fully ordained person that involves engaging in actions after having given up the purifying discipline is merely the definition of a downfall. Any downfall, if the continuum of the basis can be restored, is non-concealment; if it is impossible to restore, it is the definition of a concealed downfall. Secondly, the detailed explanation is divided into four parts. The first is the downfall of unchaste conduct: The basis is a limb suitable for receiving all parts; in the birth passage, the male organ is functional; the intention is without shame or fear, with desire; the action is friction, ultimately attaining pleasure. Thus, one is completely diminished from chaste conduct. This is to say that the origin of the story is that thirteen years after the Teacher attained complete enlightenment as a Buddha, in Shravasti, the monk Bhadrika, due to the affliction of desire, engaged in unchaste conduct with his former wife, and thus the precept was established. There are four branches: basis, intention, action, and ultimate result. The basis is the object of reliance, the limb capable of generating the pleasure of sexual intercourse, complete with all parts suitable for receiving, that is, the genitals up to half the body, including the mouth, anus, or urethra, any of these three being undamaged and capable of functioning. The support is one's own male organ, healthy and functional. The intention is without shame or fear, and being afflicted with desire, the motivation is the desire to experience the pleasure of touch. The action is giving to the object of reliance and rubbing. The ultimate result is surpassing the boundary of the three paths and attaining pleasure, that is, experiencing pleasure with the body and possessing it with the mind. If such limbs are complete, it becomes the actual basis for the downfall of unchaste conduct. As the Sakya verse says: From the lips, teeth, and skin, if the jewel is surpassed, it is a defeat; in other cases, depending on the situation, it is either a gross offense or a residue of the Sangha.

The intention is to steal with the thought of stealing for one's own survival. Stealing is done through actions that possess place, time, and value. Ultimately, one steals oneself, or instigates others to steal, or obtains from the root. This is to say that the basis for this was set when the monk Norchen in Rajagriha stole the trees of King Ajatashatru in order to build his own house. There are four branches: The basis is an object possessed by a human being in a place and property that are not one's own. The object is food and objects from the cemetery, etc., that are not inferior. The place is where, at that time, within a single action, there is a complete value in relation to both the thief and the stolen object. Its measure is from the Fiftieth Karika: 'If one steals a quarter of a Karshapana, having stolen it, the discipline will be destroyed.' A quarter of a Karshapana is the measure of value. Moreover, in India, the ashes of burnt guests are highly valued, so if combined with the value of a guest, then one Kakani has twenty guests, four Kakani have one Mashaka, which is eighty guests, twenty Mashaka have one Karshapana, which is one thousand six hundred guests. A quarter of that, four hundred guests, five Mashaka is the measure of value. In general, the measure of how many Mashaka make a Karshapana is not entirely certain. However, here, according to the root Sutra, the middle measure is made as five Mashaka. If calculated in terms of the value of gold, Kakani is Guñja, that is, black-headed Māru. Four of these are a Mashaka, that is, two golden Seva. Five of these are a quarter of a Karshapana, that is, ten golden Seva. Therefore, it is reasonable to consider about five Khal as the measure of value here, because in times without famine, twenty golden Seva could be exchanged for one ZhO in Ü (dbUs), and one ZhO would not be exchanged for ten Khal of barley. The intention is to recognize that it is someone else's property, or to hesitate, with the intention of stealing for the sake of one's own survival. The action is to begin stealing with an object of complete value, accomplished through the actions of body and speech. Ultimately, one steals oneself, or instigates others to steal, or by any means, separates the stolen object from the owner and generates the thought of obtaining it in a way that one possesses it." 行为是", "english_translation": "Thirdly, the defeat of taking life is: The basis of taking life is another person, without confusion.
