Say, "Greatly virtuous one." As flowers are scattered, everyone makes four kinds of aspirations. This is the ritual for becoming a novice monk. The second part is the ritual for receiving full ordination: If the one to be ordained is twenty years old and wishes to receive full ordination, then offerings are arranged before the image of the Teacher. All necessary items, including robes, are sought. The robes are folded four times, without reversing the inside and outside, beginning and end, and then the robes, bowl, mat, and water strainer are placed near the Khenpo. Flowers and a grass mat are prepared. All the monks gathered at the place of the ritual examine their own minds, and if there are transgressions, they are remedied by confession, vows, blessings, etc., as appropriate, purifying the mind, and then they join the ritual. The one to be ordained is placed on the grass mat, facing the Khenpo, who offers flowers to all the Sangha, stands, and bows. Venerable Sangha, please listen: This sentient being named so-and-so wishes to receive full ordination from the Sangha. If it is permitted to receive full ordination from the Sangha, then please ask so-and-so virtuous friend monk to be the Karma Acarya, please ask so-and-so monk to be the secret teaching Acarya, please ask so-and-so monk to be the leader to complete the Karma, please allow this sentient being to receive full ordination. It is indeed so, please allow it. Thus pray. This is the practice after joining the ritual procession, just so as not to lose the structure of the doctrine. If following the flow of the scriptures, it is said that it is sufficient to pray with words before joining the ritual procession. Then, let the one to be ordained regard the image of the Teacher as the actual Teacher and prostrate three times. For the sake of entering the Sangha, prostrate three times to each monk. Let him perform either of the two prostrations: touching the five limbs to the ground or embracing the buttocks and touching the feet with the head. While prostrating, each monk also says: May you quickly obtain the vows of a fully ordained monk.

May this be a prayer, and may flowers be scattered. Then, have the candidate for ordination prostrate three times to the Khenpo from the grass mat. Then, spread grass on the throne, have him press the grass with his two heels, sit in a squatting position with his palms together at his heart. You should have obtained the precious human body, a perfect basis, due to past virtues and aspirations. Gradually study the Buddha's teachings, and it is excellent that you wish to receive the vows of a fully ordained monk. The reason it is good is that now, in order to be liberated from the suffering nature of the three realms of samsara and to obtain liberation and eternal happiness, you must study the teachings of the Victorious One. The essence of the teachings is the three trainings, which are the objects of practice of the three baskets. Among them, the actual antidote to samsara, non-conceptual wisdom, is the main path. But as its cause, one-pointed concentration is also necessary. And this is accomplished through pure morality without regret. Among the moralities, the most excellent here among the eight types of individual liberation vows is the vows of a fully ordained monk. As the scriptures say: The Buddha's teachings are like a precious lamp, the burning vessel is the ascetic, the one who holds the saffron robe is the son of Shakya, because they are the monks. The method of performing such a beneficial full ordination is that in the past, not long after the Buddha attained complete enlightenment, the trainees had less affliction, maturation, and karmic obscurations, and more wisdom, lineage, faculties, and mature roots of virtue, so there was no need to guide and teach them. Therefore, there were many easy methods such as "Come here." And without a Khenpo and Acharya, the Sangha simultaneously granted novice and full ordination with four karmas, etc., according to the previous rituals. But later, sentient beings had less of the three ripenings and more of the three obscurations, so they did not understand the differences in daily behavior and needed to learn. Those who became ill due to the imbalance of the body's elements needed care, etc., and needed guidance and teaching, so there is now this cumbersome ritual.
