Are you willing? I am willing. Even if it is a delicious food with a hundred flavors, if it can be obtained without effort and does not generate attachment, then it is permissible to enjoy it. This is to advise people to abandon the extreme of hardship and fatigue. Especially if you obtain rice, yogurt, noodles, five portions of food, eight portions of food, fourteen portions of food, fish, rotating offerings, invitations to feasts, impromptu invitations, mantra food, or any other suitable food from the Sangha or an individual, you may also enjoy it, but in moderation. Are you willing to abide by such precepts? I am willing. Third, advising people to practice dwelling that does not fall into either extreme, for those who desire to pursue good things, advising them to abandon the extreme of begging and to be content with just a dwelling under a tree. The admonition says: You, named "This Name," listen. Among dwellings, a tree is suitable and easy to obtain. Living there, for a monk who has renounced and taken full ordination, it will become the property of a monk. You, named "This Name," are you willing to live on a dwelling under a tree for as long as you live? I am willing. Even a five-hundred-story building, if it can be obtained without effort and does not generate attachment, then it is permissible to enjoy it. This is to advise people to abandon the extreme of hardship and fatigue. Especially if you obtain a house or temple, a building, a pavilion, a wall, a balcony, a mansion, a pavilion above the gatehouse, a pavilion on the roof, a pavilion, a turf house, an earthen cave, a stone cave, a mountain cave, a grass hut, a leaf hut, a place used for walking, a place not used for walking, a place used as a bird shelter, a place not used as a bird shelter, or any other suitable dwelling from the Sangha or an individual, you may also enjoy it, but in moderation. Are you willing to abide by such precepts? I am willing. Fourth, advising people to practice medicine that does not fall into either extreme, for those who desire to pursue good things, advising them to abandon the extreme of begging and to be content with just the residue that others have squeezed juice from and discarded. The admonition says: You, named "This Name," listen. Among medicines, the residue that has been squeezed and discarded is suitable and easy to obtain.

I am easy. If one abides in this, then for a monk, having gone forth and taken full ordination in the well-spoken Dharma Vinaya, it becomes the property of a monk. One named 'so-and-so', you should respect for as long as you live. Are you willing to live on discarded medicine? He replies: Yes, I am willing. If one can effortlessly obtain good medicine that is complete in taste and potency, and if attachment does not arise, then it is enough to enjoy it, this is to advise abandoning the extreme of fatigue and exhaustion. Especially if one obtains clarified butter, or sesame oil, or honey, or molasses of brown sugar, or what is suitable for the time, or what is suitable in measure, or what lasts for seven days, or what can be held for life, or root medicine, or stem medicine, or leaf medicine, or flower medicine, or fruit medicine, or any other suitable medicine, obtained from the Sangha or an individual, you should also take it in moderation. Do you vow to abide by such precepts? He replies: Yes, I vow. Having said these, the advice on pure living is completed. Second is the advice on guarding pure morality. One must abandon the four defeats that destroy the property of a monk, this is the advice, divided into common advice and specific advice. First is the common advice: One named 'so-and-so', listen. These four are known and seen by the Bhagavan, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly complete Buddha, and are said to be the Dharma of defeat that causes a monk who has gone forth and taken full ordination to fall. If a monk does these, he immediately ceases to be a monk, ceases to be a Shramana, ceases to be a son of the Shakya, and loses the qualification of a monk. His practice of a Shramana will be destroyed, destroyed, fallen, defeated, and his practice of a Shramana cannot be recovered. For example, if the head of a palm tree is cut off, it cannot turn green again, nor can it grow, flourish, and expand. Specific advice is divided into four. First, one must abandon attachment to sentient beings, and the associated non-celibate conduct, this is the advice. What are these four? Desire, attachment to desire, infatuation with desire, and desire.
