Of the three. Those with support are born from humans. Thus it is said. Second, in the Compendium, it is said that everything relies on the mind of the actual basis of meditation. According to the Treasury, the first eight are the actual basis of meditation, and the latter two rely on the formless mind. Third, there are four: definition, etymology, classification, and characteristics. First, the definition: accompanied by co-emergent samadhi, it relies on any of the actual bases of meditation and the formless realm as its own condition, and is able to spread its main object to all knowable things. Second, the etymology: because it is able to spread the object continuously, it is called "all-pervading." Third, there are ten all-pervading places: earth all-pervading, water all-pervading, fire all-pervading, wind all-pervading, blue all-pervading, yellow all-pervading, red all-pervading, white all-pervading, space all-pervading, and the samadhi of all-pervading consciousness. The definition of the first: accompanied by co-emergent samadhi, it relies on the mind of the actual basis of meditation as its own condition, and is able to spread the earth that has become its own object to all knowable things. By it, the middle seven are inferred. The definition of the latter two: it relies on the mind of the actual basis of the formless realm as its own condition, and is able to spread the space that has become its own object to all knowable things. Relying on it, it is able to spread the consciousness that has become its own object to all knowable things, accompanied by co-emergent samadhi. Fourth, there are three: collection, the way of purification, and the function of meditation. First, if the ten are collected, they can be summarized into four all-pervading places that focus on the sense base of touch, the sense base of form, the sense base of phenomena, and the sense base of consciousness. The first four have the sense base of touch as their object, the middle four have the sense base of form as their object, and the last two have the sense base of phenomena and the sense base of consciousness as their object. Furthermore, there is a reason to establish all-pervading in the sense base of touch and form, because these two pervade all natures and are able to spread throughout all form realms. In particular, there is a reason to establish all-pervading in the elements, because without dependent origination, it is not possible to spread the dependent arising. Among the sense base of phenomena, space and consciousness are all-pervading.
