There is a reason for establishing it, because space pervades all that is stable and moving, and consciousness is the object of all knowable things, and it is a consciousness with continuity. The five faculties should not be established as exhaustion, because they cannot extend outwards, and they are not objects that can hold other dharmas. Odor and taste should not be established there, because they cannot extend to the upper realms, because they are included in the desire realm. Sound and mental events should not be established there, because they have no continuity. Secondly, there are two ways of practicing: the way of practicing after having practiced, and the way of practicing without having practiced. The first is that, by the power of previous habituation, one sees a little of each object, and thereby that and that samadhi becomes manifest. For example, the noble Well-Come (འཕགས་པ་ལེགས་འོངས་) said that by the power of previously habituating the samadhi of blue exhaustion, merely seeing a blue utpala (梵文天城体:utpala,梵文罗马拟音:utpala,汉语字面意思:乌 উৎপལ་) flower, the samadhi of blue exhaustion arises. Secondly, there are three aspects: the determination of the support of the object, the way of focusing the mind, and the difference of the signs. The first is that the supports of the objects of the ten exhaustions are, in order, like a bridge over the sea, like a clean and stainless vessel filled with water, like a square stove hole with fire burning underneath, like the wind coming from a window touching a limb of one's own body, blue, yellow, white, and red made into circles and divided by other colors, a hole about a span and four fingers high facing the sky, and like the light of a lamp inside a vase reflecting from the hole onto the wall. The second is to focus on those object supports and meditate single-mindedly without distraction. The third is that there are two aspects: the signs of grasping and the signs of appearance. The first is that, remembering those object conditions, the ways in which signs of interruption arise during meditation are, in order, that the earth is broken into pieces and cannot be extended, the water is in a moving state mixed with bubbles, the flame is broken and moves elsewhere, the wind is like the steam rising from milk boiled and spilled on the ground, the four colors of blue etc. are broken into pieces, like flowers without stems, the sky becomes like a hole in a wall, increasing.

Also, it does not increase, and consciousness appears to be obstructed, like a mandala made with the earth as its base. Secondly, the way in which the signs of accomplishment arise by relying on those objects of focus and meditating on them is as follows: In the first instance, one can freely transform the object of focus, the earth, as one wishes, as if it were related to it; secondly, one can transform water so that it does not move and spreads elsewhere; thirdly, one can transform fire so that it spreads elsewhere like a red, round moon dwelling in the sky; fourthly, one can transform wind so that it stays as it is and spreads elsewhere; for the four colors, such as blue, as objects of focus, appearing like a jewel-handled whisk, and one can spread it with that; ninth, one can transform it so that it spreads everywhere like a mandala of space; tenth, it is like a vast collection of light illuminating all material things. Thirdly, the successive actions of accomplishing those samādhis of exhaustion: one can transform material objects into one and many, and one can also transform many into one; one can also walk on water without sinking; one can transform fire that burns the palace of demons; one can move quickly like the wind; one can transform forms and so on into blue and make them the nature of darkness; transform them into yellow and turn them into gold; similarly, transform them into red and white, and one can transform them as one wishes; one can pass through walls and so on without obstruction; one can make the body light and keep sleep and drowsiness far away. The meaning of the words is: The ten dharmas of the exhaustion birth place of the Buddha ground are the Dharma body of wisdom of realization, because it is omniscient. The second is, at the time of "overpowering birth place," it is divided into two. First, for the samādhi of overpowering, there are three: definition, classification, and doubt resolution. The first is: Based on the actual mind of one's own causal dhyāna, by the power of the previous liberation of form, the samādhi that can overpower other dharmas with that form that has become one's own object of focus, together with its concomitants. Secondly, there are two types of overpowering birth places: shape and color. The definition of the first: Any overpowering birth place that has become one's own object of focus.
