The form of shape, endowed with the samadhi that can subdue other dharmas. Divisions: tangible form large, small; intangible form large, small; there are four overcoming spheres. Definition of the first two: Shape overcoming sphere. What is it? The yogi himself, through the door of appearing before other beings to be tamed, that great form which becomes his object of focus. The small form, regarding other dharmas, is similar to the previous. Definition of the latter two: What is that? The yogi himself, through the door of not appearing before other beings to be tamed, becomes his object of focus, etc. Second definition: What is the basis of distinction? The yogi himself, recognizing internally as non-form, that form of color which becomes his object of focus, is analogous to other dharmas. Divisions: blue, yellow, red, white, there are four overcoming spheres. Definitions in order: Color overcoming sphere, what is it? That which becomes his object of focus, blue, yellow, red, white, is analogous to other dharmas. Also, the first two shape overcoming spheres arise from the cause of the liberation of viewing form as tangible. The latter two arise from the cause of the liberation of viewing form as intangible. The four color overcoming spheres arise from the cause of the liberation of ugliness. The third is: What is the difference between liberation, overcoming, and pervasion? In the first case, one views one's own object of focus as beautiful, not beautiful, and various others. In the second case, on top of that, one is able to subdue other dharmas. In the third case, one's own single object of focus is able to pervade all dharmas. Therefore, these three arise from the former to the latter. As it is said in the commentary on the Treasury: The overcoming spheres are those that lead to liberation, and the pervasive spheres are those that lead to the overcoming spheres, because they are increasingly superior from above. Thus it is said. Meaning of words: The eight overcoming spheres of the Buddha-ground, the nature of phenomena. The sign is the same as before. The third is:

“The view of the Shravakas without afflictions.” In this case, there are two: First, the Samadhi without afflictions has two aspects: characteristic and division. The first is: the non-learning Samadhi that has abandoned the afflictive obscurations, based on the actual mind of self-conditioned meditation, along with its concomitants. The divisions are: those of the Shravakas and the Buddhas. The characteristic of the first: What is that? It is the Samadhi of the Shravaka non-learning continuum, along with its concomitants. Example: Like the wisdom of the Shravaka Arhat's continuum, which is liberated from both parts. The characteristic of the second: The Samadhi that has completely abandoned the two obscurations along with their imprints, along with its concomitants. Example: Like omniscience. The meaning of the words is: The Samadhi without afflictions of the Buddhas, the Dharma nature, is more excellent than the Samadhi without afflictions of the Shravakas, because it is the ultimate Samadhi that uproots afflictions from the continuum of other beings to be tamed. Third, the Sambhogakaya is: “The marks are thirty-two.” In this case, there are two: First, the Sambhogakaya has three aspects: generally showing the characteristics, concisely showing the nature, and the difference in qualities. The first has five characteristics: body, speech, mind, activity, and manner of appearance. The first is: having a body of light with marks and signs. The second is: enjoying various Mahayana teachings. The third is: having the compassion of liberation that strives for the benefit of others. The fourth is: activity spontaneously accomplished like a wish-fulfilling jewel. The fifth is: appearing in various colors and shapes, but not established as real. As stated in the Uttaratantra: “With a body possessing various excellent Dharma lights, striving for the liberation and benefit of beings, activity is like the king of wish-fulfilling jewels, not various things and their nature.” The second is: the ultimate Rupakaya possessing five certainties. The five certainties are: certainty of essence, adorned with marks and signs; certainty of Dharma, only teaching the Mahayana Dharma; certainty of retinue, only surrounded by noble Bodhisattvas; certainty of place, only residing in the Akanishta Ghanavyuha Pure Land; certainty of time, abiding without withdrawing the appearance of the body until Samsara is empty. The divisions are: Bodhisattvas on the Bhumis.
