What makes the powers of concentration and wisdom imperceptible and subdued? This is called the power that protects all knowledge. So it is said. Thirdly, it is called 'power' because it generates its own self-result, consciousness; it controls the nature of male and female; it controls the abiding of similar aggregates; it controls all afflictions by relying on the three, pleasure, pain, and equanimity; it controls the increase of pure dharmas; it obtains the unobtained uncontaminated qualities; and it controls the increase of the obtained qualities. Secondly, there is a reason for establishing fourteen powers of all afflictions: by considering the basis for entering samsara, the six powers of the eye, etc.; by considering the birth there, the powers of male and female; by considering the abiding of the born, the power of life; by considering the enjoyment of the ripening there, the five feelings are established. There is a reason for establishing eight powers of purification: by considering the basis for entering the uncontaminated path, the five powers of faith, etc.; by considering the generation of the uncontaminated path, the power of the unknown to be known; by considering the abiding of the born, the power of the known; by considering the abiding enjoyment of the uncontaminated bliss, the power of the known and possessed is established. Fifthly, the desire realm has nineteen powers, because it has all except the three uncontaminated powers; the form realm has fifteen, because on top of the nineteen, it has all except the male and female powers and the four of suffering and unpleasantness; the formless realm has eight, because it has the three of life, mind, and equanimity, and the five powers of faith, etc. From the 'Definitive Explanation,' it is also said that the power of suffering is established in the form realm. The meaning of the words is: the bodhisattva who abides in the subsequent wisdom of cessation is a dharma of medium power, and is temporarily a sangha that does not turn back from the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, because he is a son of the Buddha who cannot enter the Hinayana path through both thought and action. Thirdly, because all dharmas are like dreams. When saying this, in the first of the two, there is the nature of the three applications, and what extends from that.
