Ro. The third is that a Bodhisattva on the path of joining who has sharp faculties is not a person who turns back from unsurpassed Bodhi, because they are a son of the Buddhas who, through both thought and action, cannot enter the path of the Lesser Vehicle. This is how it is stated. In the third, there are two reasons for non-retrogression: one for the sake of oneself and one for the sake of others. The first is: any reason for non-retrogression that does not depend on the proponent establishing it as a sign before the opponent. An example is that a Bodhisattva on the path of joining who has sharp faculties, seeing some Bodhisattvas on the path of seeing who have medium faculties and possess special conduct of body and speech in post-attainment, knows that they are non-retrogressing by their own power. The second has two aspects: essence and division. The first is: any reason for non-retrogression that depends on the proponent establishing it as a sign before the opponent. An example is that a Bodhisattva on the path of meditation who possesses the eye of the Dharma of realization, before a Bodhisattva on the path of joining who has sharp faculties and possesses the desire to know, establishes that a Bodhisattva on the path of seeing who has medium faculties and possesses special conduct of body and speech in post-attainment is non-retrogressing from unsurpassed perfect Bodhi, because they are a son of the Buddhas who, through both thought and action, cannot enter the path of the Lesser Vehicle and possess special conduct of body and speech in post-attainment. This is how it is stated. The divisions are: establishing the sign of non-retrogression by one who has attained it to one who has attained it, one who has attained it to one who has not attained it, one who has not attained it to one who has attained it, and one who has not attained it to one who has not attained it. In the third, there are three aspects: how it becomes a sign for oneself, how it becomes a sign for others, and how it is taught in the scriptures. The first is that all three of the realization of equipoise and post-attainment, and the conduct of body and speech in post-attainment, can become signs for oneself, because a Bodhisattva on the path of seeing who has medium faculties can be certain that they are non-retrogressing from the sign of the special conduct of body and speech of their own continuum's equipoise and post-attainment. The second has two aspects: general teaching and resolving doubts. The first is that both equipoise and post-attainment can become signs of non-retrogression for others, for example, before a Bodhisattva on the path of joining who has the desire to know,

The Bodhisattva of the Seeing Path with medium faculties, who possesses special actions of body and speech due to having attained a ground, is one who has previously attained the realization of Samadhi that makes it impossible to enter the path of the Lesser Vehicle through thought and action, because he is a son of the Buddhas who possesses such special actions of body and speech in the post-meditation state. From this reason, it is known that when the realization of Samadhi is accomplished, the Bodhisattva of the Seeing Path with medium faculties, who abides in Samadhi, is irreversible from unsurpassed Bodhi, because he is a son of the Buddhas who abides in the realization of Samadhi that makes it impossible to enter the path of the Lesser Vehicle through thought and action. Therefore, relying on the reason of Samadhi, one can ascertain irreversibility. Secondly, the Bodhisattva of the Seeing Path with sharp faculties, who possesses special actions of body and speech in the post-meditation state, is irreversible from unsurpassed Bodhi, because he is a son of the Buddhas who possesses special actions of body and speech in the post-meditation state that makes it impossible to enter the path of the Lesser Vehicle through thought and action. Such a reason as stated above has two types: one established by direct perception of self-nature with pervasive relation, and the other established by reliable authority based on pervasive relation to scripture. Among these, the first requires obtaining the sign of irreversibility, because without obtaining it, one cannot realize the continuum of others by direct perception of pervasive relation. The second does not require obtaining it, because there is such a change in the presence of a superior accumulation path practitioner with sharp faculties who is skilled in the distinctions of signs and has great learning. Thirdly, in the section on the arrangement of bodies, when classifying the irreversible Sangha in the phrase "the irreversible Sangha of learners," what reason establishes that irreversibility? There are three types of irreversible Bodhisattvas: those on the Path of Application, those on the Seeing Path, and those on the Path of Meditation. First, explaining the first, it is taught in the Chapter on Discrimination, "Whatever Bodhisattvas abide, this is the irreversible assembly." Explaining it in detail, "The signs of separation from form, etc." and so forth are explained. That is, "The signs of separation from form, etc., are expressed in twenty ways." This is the reason. "Abiding in the Chapter on Discrimination." This is the subject. "Irreversible."
