Make the cushion between the Bodhi trees on the ground into one. As it says in the Abhidharmakosha, "Between showing and rhinoceros horn Bodhi, all are based on one meditation." Therefore, collective practice means residing together with other friends, and in the final existence, without relying on other teachers to impart instructions, one manifests enlightenment oneself. These are the views of the Nīlāvatas. The Kashmir Vaibhāṣikas consider only the rhinoceros horn-like one. Secondly, there are three: quoting scriptures, summarizing the meaning of the scriptures, and directly explaining the way of progressing on the path. The first is, as stated in the Abhidharmasamuccaya, "What is a Pratyekabuddha vehicle practitioner? One who abides in the determined or undetermined nature of a Pratyekabuddha, whose nature is of middling faculties, who has made aspirations for the sake of self-liberation, who is disgusted, free from desire, with the intention to be liberated, with the intention to be enlightened by realizing oneself, who focuses on the Śrāvakapiṭaka itself and practices Dharma that is in accordance with the Dharma, who has not previously generated or has previously generated what is in accordance with the factors of ascertainment, who has not previously obtained or has previously obtained the result, whichever it may be, in the absence of the appearance of a Buddha, having preceded the path by oneself, having become like a rhinoceros horn, dwelling alone or having become self-victorious, having obtained the end of suffering through whichever of gathering and practice." And so on. Secondly, if we summarize the meaning of these scriptures, they can be summarized into four: the difference in lineage of where one abides, the difference in skillful means of the path, the difference in the object of focus, and the difference in the way of progressing on the path. Thirdly, there are two ways of progressing on the path: like a rhinoceros horn and practicing in a group. The first is that some individuals whose lineage is determined to be Pratyekabuddhas, in the stage of the accumulation path, accumulate merit for hundreds of eons, pleasing the Buddhas and so on, become skilled in the six things to be skilled in, make three aspirations at the time of death and transference, and then in the final existence of the next life, by the power of the previous aspirations, without relying on other teachers to impart instructions, manifest the path of liberation that abandons saṃsāra. The six things are: the five aggregates, the eighteen elements.

The twelve sense bases, the twelve links of dependent origination, the detailed distinctions of karma and its results, and the four noble truths, making a total of six points. The three aspirations are: May I be born in a world realm where there are no Buddhas or Shravakas; there, may I be able to realize enlightenment on my own, without relying on other teachers; and even after attaining enlightenment, may I cherish beings to be tamed through the means of the body, but not cherish them through the means of speech. That is (the three aspirations). Second, regarding the two ways of traversing the path in the community of those who have not previously been Shravakas, and those who have previously been (Shravakas). The first is: Some individuals of uncertain Pratyekabuddha lineage, in the stage of the path of accumulation, rely on a noble spiritual friend, listen to the noble Dharma, and through proper attention, accumulate merit for a hundred eons, becoming skilled in the six objects to be skilled in. At the time of death, they make three aspirations, and in the next life, by the power of aspiration, they realize enlightenment on their own, without relying on the instructions of other teachers. The second is: Some individuals of uncertain Shravaka lineage, when their faculties have been tamed and their nature has become that of middling faculties, accumulate merit for a hundred eons, as before. Here, there are two types: ordinary Shravakas and those who have previously been noble ones. The latter are further divided into those who have previously been Stream-enterers and those who have previously been Once-returners. The third is: Similar to the way of traversing the path of the Great Vehicle, dividing a hundred great eons into three parts, one part for the Pratyekabuddha's path of accumulation, path of joining, and path of seeing, one part for the six rounds of the small and medium paths of meditation, and one part for the three rounds of the great path. In those stages, they accumulate merit and realize the Pratyekabuddha's enlightenment on their own, without relying on other teachings. That is, in the root text, it says "self-born nature," etc., and in the commentary, it says: The Pratyekabuddhas are those who have previously heard, etc., and have manifestly accumulated, so they do not rely on the teachings of others, but realize their own enlightenment on their own. Therefore, they do not need to be taught by Buddhas, etc., which is one unique feature. This is the meaning that is explained. Second, in the Sutra of Repaying Kindness, it says: The Pratyekabuddhas need a hundred great eons to reach completion.
