Two types of naturally abiding lineage. The definition of the first: What is it? It serves as the basis for practicing the Dharma that one relies on. Classification: Two types of naturally abiding lineage that serve as the basis for the practice of the Lesser Vehicle and the Great Vehicle. Example: The nature of the mind in the learning continuum of each of them. There are thirteen types of naturally abiding lineage that serve as the basis for the thirteen practices mentioned here. The second is: The defiled nature of the mind before entering the path, and so on. The definition of the second, the evolving lineage: What is the lineage that arises from newly acquired causes similar to one's own lineage? At the ultimate moment when stainlessness manifests, it is newly established as the enlightened wisdom Dharmakaya. Classification: Two types of evolving lineage: those that become the essence of the path and those that are different from it. The first is: The wisdom in the learning continuum of the Lesser Vehicle and the Great Vehicle, and so on. The second is: The roots of virtue before entering the path, which are grasped by the mind that seeks enlightenment, and so on. The second is divided into: Two types of lineage, the Great Vehicle and the Lesser Vehicle. The definitions are in order: What is the Buddha lineage? The mind-dharma that can show the person who possesses it as a being of the Great Vehicle lineage. What is it? The mind-dharma that can show the person who possesses it in their own continuum as a being of the Lesser Vehicle lineage. Classification: Two types of lineage, those who have attained the path and those who have not, in each of the Great and Lesser Vehicles. The third is divided into: Two types of lineage, definite and indefinite. The definition of the first: The lineage that, from the very beginning, is determined to be the cause of one's own attainment of enlightenment, and cannot be diverted to another path by circumstances. Classification: Two types of lineage, definite for the Lesser Vehicle and the Great Vehicle. The definition of the second: What is the Buddha lineage? It can be temporarily diverted to another path due to causes such as virtuous friends. Classification: Two types of lineage, indefinite for the Lesser Vehicle and the Great Vehicle. The Ornament says: Lineage is definite and indefinite, circumstances cannot take away and can take away, in short, lineage, this classification has four types. The fourth is divided into: Two types of classification, from the perspective of merely similar names and from the perspective of illustrative examples. The first is divided into: The Tathagatagarbha of the ground-time, the cause-time, and the result-time, three. The first is

The Dharmadhatu of the union of appearance and emptiness pervading all that is stable and moving. The second is, the Dharmadhatu of the union of clarity and emptiness in the continuum of sentient beings. The third is, the ultimate Dharmadhatu of twofold purity. In the second, from the perspective of the root, there are three: Dharmakaya, Suchness, and Lineage. In the Uttaratantra it says: "Because the complete Buddha body arises, and because Suchness is without difference, and because there is lineage, all beings constantly possess the Buddha-nature." Thus it is said. From the perspective of the branches. In the first, there are three Dharmakayas: the Dharmadhatu that is extremely stainless, profound, and vast. In the third, from the perspective of essence, there are two lineages; from the perspective of function, there are three bodies, thus there are five. In the Uttaratantra it says: "The nature of this is Dharmakaya, Suchness, and also Lineage. These are known by three examples, one and five." Thus it is said. In the extensive explanation of Dharmakaya it says: "The Dharmakaya should be known as twofold: the Dharmadhatu that is extremely stainless, its co-cause is profound, and the nature of manifesting various forms." Thus it is said. In the extensive explanation of Lineage it says: "Like a treasure and a fruit tree." Thus and so forth it is said. The metaphors that represent these are also nine. The metaphors that represent the first three are: the Buddha in the lotus, the honey in the bee, the essence in the husk, the gold in the impure, are metaphors for Suchness. The metaphors for the latter five are: the treasure under the ground, the fruit that grows trees, are metaphors for the two lineages. The Buddha image in the tattered cloth, the universal monarch in the womb of the wicked woman, the Buddha image in the mud, are metaphors for the three bodies. In the Uttaratantra it says: "The Buddha in the lotus, honey in the bee, essence in the husk, gold in the impure, treasure in the ground, sprouts and small fruits, the Buddha image in the tattered cloth, the lord of men in the womb of the wicked woman, the precious image in the earth, just like that, this element abides in sentient beings obscured by the stains of sudden afflictions." Thus it is said. In the third, there are two ways: the way the lineage awakens and the way the lineage transforms. In the first, there are three: the signs of the lineage awakening, its obstacles, and its benefits. The first is, combining with the path,
