This is because, in order to understand that the five eyes and their objects are all truly empty. Regarding the cases of supernatural powers, etc., there are two types. The first is about the six supernatural powers, which are divided into three: cause, essence, and result. The first is further divided into three: the basis of the body, the basis of the mind, and the cause of maturation. The first is further divided into two: in which realm it is obtained, and by whom it is obtained. The first is further divided into two: newly achieving what was not there before, and the case of having already obtained and abiding. The first is that it must be cultivated on the basis of the desire realm, because it mainly relies on the power of the scriptures to arise. As for the supernatural powers of the exhausted defilements, they can also actually arise on the basis of the form realm. The second is that the first five can arise on the basis of both the desire and form realms, and the sixth can also be in the formless realm. If we distinguish in detail, the telepathy and the recollection of past lives may also exist on the basis of the formless realm, because the Hearer-Noble Ones who have the basis of the formless realm can directly know the differences in the faculties of other beings' minds, and their own and others' past and future lives. The second is that the non-Buddhists who have attained the actual practice of meditation, and all those who have not entered the path, can actually arise in their minds, because that is how it is explained in the Compendium. The second is divided into two: a general explanation, and a specific explanation of the basis of the Mahayana's direct perception of wisdom. The first is that the first five supernatural powers rely on the actual practice of meditation, and the sixth relies on the fourth meditation. As it says in the Compendium: How are these qualities directly realized? Whether it is a non-Buddhist, a Hearer, or a Bodhisattva, by relying on the pure fourth meditation, they can directly realize the immeasurables. How are the immeasurables directly realized? The five direct perceptions of wisdom are also the same. The remaining qualities, whether it is a Hearer, a Bodhisattva, or a Tathagata, by relying on the most ultimate fourth meditation, they can directly realize them. So it is said. The second is that it is believed to rely on the three distinctions of the self-cause fourth meditation, the wisdom that realizes emptiness as an assistant, and how the objects of direct perception of wisdom abide as they are. As it says in the Ornament: When the extremely pure fourth meditation is obtained

Sa. Completely holding the non-conceptual wisdom, and how to keep the mind in its natural state, through this, power will be accomplished, and the supreme deity will be attained. Thus it is said. The third is: Giving shoes and mounts etc. to others, offering various kinds of music in special places, guarding one's mind by not speaking of others' faults, giving the gift of Dharma, offering garlands of lamps etc., and ascertaining through hearing and thinking about selflessness, these are respectively the causes of the six superknowledges. Secondly, there are four: definition, classification, individual nature, and characteristics. The first is: Relying on the complete cause that makes oneself achieve superknowledge, it is the object of directly knowing the lord of one's own realm. The classifications are: magical power, divine ear, mind-reading, recollection of past lives, divine eye, and the superknowledge of the exhaustion of defilements. Thirdly, among the six, the definition of the first: Which of the six superknowledges? Relying on the mind of the actual basis of one's own dominant condition, meditation, it is able to actually display various magical powers such as earthquakes, possessing samadhi and wisdom in conjunction. The classifications are: the classification of mere magical power and the classification of superknowledge, two types. The first is: Like the magical power of the gods of the desire and form realms, it is innate; like the magical power of the intermediate state, it is born from karma; accomplished by the magic of secret mantras, it relies on mantras; accomplished by medicinal preparations, it relies on medicine; relying on the actual basis of meditation, it is the magical power that relies on samadhi, there are five types. Among these, the first four are merely magical power, and the latter is also superknowledge. The second is: Like the superknowledge of non-Buddhists, it is not grasped by the wisdom that realizes selflessness; like the superknowledge of those who have entered the path, it is the superknowledge grasped by it, there are two types. This classification can also be applied to the four in between. The definition of the second: What is that? Relying on one's own uncommon dominant condition, the physical ear faculty purified by meditation, it is able to hear subtle and coarse sounds of the world realm, possessing samadhi and wisdom in conjunction. The classifications are: divine ear and the classification of superknowledge, two types. The first is: Like the ear faculty of the gods of the desire and form realms, it is innate; like the ear faculty of a universal monarch, it is born from karma; the actual basis of meditation
