There are four types of emptiness: things and non-things, and the emptiness of self-nature and other-nature. To summarize, there are two emptinesses: the emptiness of the self of persons and the emptiness of the self of phenomena. In the "Entering the Middle Way," it says, "For the sake of beings' liberation from samsara, two distinctions are taught: the selflessness of persons and the selflessness of phenomena. Therefore, the Teacher, in order to tame beings, further divides these two into many." Emptiness with elaborations, after explaining the sixteen emptinesses, is briefly summarized, and the four emptinesses are explained again, which are also accepted in the Mahayana. As stated in the "Fundamental Wisdom of the Middle Way," "Internal and external, etc.," up to "Emptiness is considered to be twenty types." Second, there are two: the conventional truth with distinctions and the ultimate truth without distinctions. The first is like a sprout not arising from itself. The second is like the nature of phenomena, which is the self-purified nature existing in each phenomenon. Fourth, there are two: the valid cognitions that ascertain conventional truth and ultimate truth. The first includes the unconfused sense consciousness that measures the sense objects of form, such as blue, which is the basis-refuting valid cognition; and the subsequent wisdom of the noble ones' continuum that realizes the appearance of conditioned phenomena as without self-nature, which is the self-refuting valid cognition. The second includes the inferential consciousness that realizes the non-reality of appearances from the reasoning of the oneness or difference of truth, which is the basis-refuting valid cognition; and the meditative wisdom that realizes emptiness free from elaborations, which is the self-refuting valid cognition. Fifth, there are two: the faults of non-realization and the benefits of realization. The first is as stated in the "Fundamental Wisdom of the Middle Way": "Those who do not distinguish these two truths do not understand the profound reality of the Buddha's teachings. Without relying on conventions, one cannot explain the ultimate truth. Without realizing the ultimate truth, one cannot attain nirvana." The second is as stated in the "Two Truths": "Those who understand the distinction between the two truths will not be confused by the Buddha's words. They will accumulate all the merits and reach the perfect shore." The meaning of the words: The teachings that are spoken are to guide practitioners to recognize their own nature, which is necessary because in order to understand the objects that do not go beyond the two truths, and how to practice the union of skillful means and wisdom.

In the four truths, there are four aspects: nature, definite number, order, and the way to enter into the realization of the four truths. First, there are the two truths of suffering and origin to be abandoned, and cessation and path to be adopted. First, there are four aspects: definition, explanation, classification, and the boundary of elimination. The first is: any one of the two, suffering and origin, is the contaminated result of one's own cause—karma and afflictions. What is that? It is that which is included by any of the contaminated karma and afflictions. The second is: the two, suffering and origin, are not established as children grasp them, but exist as seen by the noble ones, therefore they are called the truths of the noble ones. That is, children grasp suffering as happiness, and grasp the origin as the guide. The noble ones grasp the three realms as the nature of the three sufferings, and grasp karma and afflictions as the guide. As it is said in the commentary on the Treasury: Children are like the palm of the hand, not distinguishing suffering from formation. The noble ones are like the eyes, therefore great aversion arises from it. The third is: in terms of suffering, from the perspective of the support and the supported, there are two: the outer world and the inner sentient beings. As it is said in the Compendium: What is the truth of suffering? That is, the birth of sentient beings and the place of birth can also be understood. So it is said. The outer world included by the desire and form realms is the basis of the first characteristic. The individual who has taken birth in the three realms by karma and afflictions is the basis of the second characteristic. Therefore, pure lands such as Sukhavati are not the truth of suffering. As it is said in the Compendium: Those completely pure world realms are not like the truth of suffering, because they are not produced by karma and afflictions, they are not caused by the power of karma and afflictions, but are caused by the power of aspiration and roots of virtue. So it is said. From the perspective of characteristics, such as the suffering of suffering, like feeling suffering and having the cause of suffering. Like contaminated happiness having the cause of happiness, it is the suffering of change. Like contaminated equanimity having the cause of equanimity, and phenomena included by samsara, it is pervasive suffering of conditioning, there are three in total. The origin has two: the origin of afflictions and the origin of karma. As it is said in the Compendium: What is the truth of origin? It is afflictions.
