The differences between great, medium, and small entanglements are: constantly engaging in root downfalls, having little shame or embarrassment and enjoying it, and viewing it as virtuous. Having three branches is great, having two is medium, and having one is small. Thirdly, there are two benefits: temporary and ultimate. The first is, as stated in the Bodhisattvacharyavatara: "Even if you have committed extremely evil deeds, you should not be afraid. Just as a person facing battle feels fear, how can they subdue great fears? Therefore, you should encourage yourself to generate diligence." Also, as stated in the Sutra Requested by Glorious Giving: "The merit of the mind of enlightenment, if it had form, filling all of space, it would still have a remainder." Secondly, as stated in the Manifestation of Complete Enlightenment: "The wisdom of all aspects of knowledge arises from the cause of the mind of enlightenment, with compassion as its root, and skillful means as its completion." The meaning of the words is: Venerable Maitreya, you have explained the generation of the Mahayana mind, because it is explained from the aspects of nature, object, and classification. Secondly, there are three: the cause that shows the means of accomplishment—the key instruction, the result to be obtained by accomplishment—the part of definitive liberation, and the dharma of the branch to be entered for accomplishment. First, there are two: the general presentation and the separate explanation of the object of the key instruction. The first is, at the time of "classification incidentally mentioned," of the two, the first key instruction has five: the object of listening, the person who listens, the time of listening, the cause of listening by relying on whom, and the nature of the key instruction to be listened to. The first is, bodhisattvas who are on the ground listen to the enjoyment body, ordinary beings who are purified and Hearers and Solitary Realizers listen to the emanation body, and ordinary individuals of the present listen from a spiritual friend who possesses three characteristics. However, some disciples with pure continuums also have their continuums ripened by the sound of the Dharma arising from the sky and trees, etc. The second is, the person who possesses three: the intention to seek the meaning of the key instruction, the wisdom to understand its meaning, and the respect without arrogance, that is, from the time before entering the path of the ground until the earlier part of the end of existence. The third is, possessing the intention to seek the meaning of the key instruction.

And, it is in the state of reaching the ultimate in abandonment and realization. The fourth is that the desire to seek the key instructions arising from the awakening of lineage is the general cause, and obtaining the samadhi of the Dharma stream is the cause of listening to the special key instructions of a special support. The Ornament says, "At that time, in the Dharma stream, for the sake of the Buddhas' quiescence, and for obtaining vast wisdom, one will obtain vast key instructions." The samadhi of the Dharma stream is the mind that relies on the actual mind of meditation, which is the self-cause, and is able to hold the meaning of the words of many scriptures, accompanied by mindfulness and wisdom. It is said in the commentary that it exists even from the path of accumulation. Fifth, there are five: entity, definition, division, definite number, and order. First, if it is a key instruction, it must be speech. Jowo Je (Atisha) said, "There are ten kinds of key instructions, the essence is considered to be the wheel of speech, there are three in the path of accumulation, five in the path of application, and one each in the path of seeing and meditation." Therefore. The second is the Dharma of the scriptures that mainly shows the meaning of what one should practice. Third, there are three divisions from the perspective of what is said, the need, and the object. First, there are two kinds of key instructions: those of higher realms and those of definite goodness. The definition of the first is the Dharma of the scriptures that mainly shows the means of accomplishing higher realms. The entity is like treatises that show the path of the ten virtuous actions in order to mainly accomplish the perfections of samsara. The definition of the second is the Dharma of the scriptures that mainly shows the means of accomplishing enlightenment. There are two divisions: key instructions of the Great Vehicle and the Small Vehicle. The definition of the first is the Dharma of the scriptures that mainly shows the means of accomplishing complete enlightenment. The definition of the second is the Dharma of the scriptures that mainly shows the means of accomplishing the enlightenment of the Small Vehicle. Second, there are two kinds of key instructions: those of instruction and those of subsequent instruction. Regarding these, there are two ways of explaining: general explanation and examining whether they contradict each other. First, according to the two commentaries, the key instruction that is taught in order to increase the qualities that have already been obtained without diminishing them is the first. After that, the key instruction that is taught in order to newly obtain the qualities that have not been obtained before is the second. As it says in the Twenty Thousand Verse Sunlight Commentary: In order to fully increase the qualities that have been truly obtained, guarding them so that they do not diminish...
