It is bodhicitta, because it is difficult to degenerate due to unfavorable factors. As stated in the Ornament: The power of friends, the power of causes, the power of roots, The power of hearing, the power of virtuous habits, From the unstable arises the stable, It is said to be the bodhicitta shown by others. Secondly, there are four aspects: nature, classification, etymology, and boundaries. The first is: the bodhicitta that has become the nature of non-conceptual equipoise, directly realizing the nature of reality. Secondly, there are three types: with the characteristics of effort, without the characteristics of effort, and the ultimate bodhicitta that has eliminated obscurations. Thirdly, it is excellent to hold in reverence and serve hundreds of Buddhas or more in one incalculable period; it is excellent to subsequently accumulate vast amounts of the two accumulations in that way; it is excellent to realize the wisdom that directly realizes the selflessness of phenomena, therefore it is said to have three excellences. As stated in the Ornament: The perfect Buddha is greatly pleased, The accumulations of merit and wisdom are greatly accumulated, The wisdom of non-conceptualization of phenomena, Because it is born, it is considered excellent. Fourthly, it is obtained from the first bhumi. As stated in the Ornament: Dharma and sentient beings, And the activity of the Buddha, Because of finding equality of mind in the supreme, Its Joyful One is especially excellent. Thirdly, there are two aspects: general presentation and specific explanation of characteristics. The first is: from the venerable Manjushri to Nagarjuna and his sons, the profound practice of the view of bodhicitta established in the Compendium of Trainings and the Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life, known as the Madhyamaka school; from the venerable Maitreya to the brothers Asanga, the vast practice of the conduct of bodhicitta established in the Bodhisattva Grounds and the Twenty Verses, known as the Mind-Only school. Secondly, there are four aspects: the object to be taken, the person who takes it, the ritual of how to take it, and the difference in what is to be learned. The first is: As stated in the Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life: Always a virtuous friend, Skilled in the meaning of the Great Vehicle, The supreme conduct of a bodhisattva, Will not be abandoned even for life. It is said that an acharya with qualities, or taking it in front of a support, can also arise, but in the Mind-Only school, if it has degenerated, it is said that it must rely on the acharya himself to recover.

Regarding the arising of Bodhicitta in the Madhyamaka school, it arises in all who are capable of genuinely generating the aspiration for enlightenment. The Vijnanavada school, however, requires the prior possession of any of the seven types of individual liberation vows, thus, other beings besides men and women of the three continents cannot genuinely generate it. Thirdly, there are three distinctions: the preliminary practice, the main practice, and the subsequent ritual. Firstly, the Madhyamaka school asserts that one should first make supplications and then perform the seven-branch offering, while the Vijnanavada school considers mere prostration and offering sufficient. Secondly, according to the Madhyamaka view, possessing a special aspiration to seek enlightenment for the sake of others, one takes refuge with phrases such as "Until I reach the heart of enlightenment, I take refuge," and generates Bodhicitta by repeating "Just as the Sugatas of the past" three times. According to the Vijnanavada school, Jamyang Sakya Pandita said: "Therefore, in the Vijnanavada school, if one wishes to generate Bodhicitta, first obtain individual liberation, study the Bodhisattva Pitaka, and if one can believe and practice, then take the Bodhicitta vows later." It is like that. Thirdly, the Vijnanavada school states that it is sufficient to request awareness before the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the ten directions. The Madhyamaka school distinguishes between meditating for one's own benefit and meditating for the benefit of others. Fourthly, it will be explained below. Fourthly, there are three types of Bodhicitta: king-like, shepherd-like, and ferryman-like. Firstly, the Bodhicitta that wishes to first become a Buddha oneself and then liberate all sentient beings. Secondly, the wish to first place all sentient beings on the level of Buddhahood and then attain enlightenment oneself. Thirdly, oneself and other sentient beings together. Fifthly, there are three types of Bodhicitta included in the path of accumulation, one included in the path of preparation, ten included in the paths of seeing and meditation, five included in the path of distinction, and three included in the Buddha ground, totaling twenty-two. Firstly, the aspiration symbolized by earth and the corresponding Bodhicitta, the resolve symbolized by gold, the increased aspiration symbolized by the waxing moon and the corresponding Bodhicitta. Secondly, the practice symbolized by fire. Thirdly, a great treasure, the source of jewels, the great ocean, a vajra, a mountain.
