It is said that whatever consciousness is, that is mind, immediately after the six have ceased. According to the Mahayana, for example, in the case of form, the alaya consciousness dwells without grasping in a clear and pure place, and the appearance of seeing form appears in the consciousness, and these two are designated as cessation.\ \ \ \ The part that appears momentarily as "it is form" is called mind or heart. Because it enters quickly, it does not distinguish in detail, so it is non-conceptual, and it is the first object taken by wisdom, and all the subtle discriminations that arise from it are said to be grasping discriminations. Moreover, in the commentary on the Ornament of the Sutras of Firm Intelligence, it says: The five faculties of mind and eye, etc., are the doors of action, so they are the basis of entry. The mind that thinks of good and non-good is the agent. The six objects of form, etc., are the objects. The alaya consciousness is the guide. The alaya is like a basis, a place, and a house. Second, the main part of the three dharmas is identified as: The aggregates and the sources, and one realm gathers all, because of its own nature, it does not possess other things. This means that the three, the form aggregate, the mind source, and the dharma realm, are the main parts of the three dharmas, because these three gather all dharmas. If all dharmas are gathered, they will be gathered into three: form, mind, and dharmas other than these two. First, gathered by the form aggregate; second, gathered by the mind source; third, gathered by the dharma realm. Moreover, it is gathered by its own nature, because the dharma other than that does not possess the nature of being its gatherer. This also applies to the latter two. Third, the refutation of the argument about the determination of the number of realms is: Although there are two eyes, etc., because of the similarity of kind, object, and consciousness, it is one realm, and two arise because of beauty. This means that it is unreasonable to determine the number of realms as eighteen, because the eyes have two realms, left and right, and the ears also have these two. If this is said, it is not pervasive, because the two left and right eyes are of the same kind in the eye, the object is focused on form, and the result is the generation of consciousness, and for these same reasons, it is established as one realm.\ \ \ \ However, two appear

The reason for the two occurrences is to adorn the basis (referring to the five aggregates, twelve sources, and eighteen elements). Secondly, regarding the characteristics of the three dharmas (referring to the five aggregates, twelve sources, and eighteen elements), there are three points: the meanings of these three, the necessity of explaining these three, and the order of these three. The first point is: the meaning of accumulation, gateway of birth, and type. The aggregates, sources, and elements are these. It means that in the field of consciousness, they appear as if they are accumulated numerous things, so they are the five aggregates. Because they give rise to and expand consciousness, they are the twelve sources. Because they are the cause or type of producing fruit, they are called the eighteen elements. The second point includes both necessity and doubt analysis. The first point is: in order to eliminate the attachment to ignorance, ability, and desire, the three dharmas such as aggregates are explained. That is to say, in order to eliminate the ignorance of clinging to mental phenomena as one, clinging to colored objects as one, and clinging to both form and consciousness as one. Or, it is also to adapt to people with three different abilities of sharp, medium, and dull faculties. Or, it is also to satisfy those who want brief, medium, and extensive teachings. The second point is: in order to become the root of controversy, in order to become the cause of samsara, for the sake of order. Among the mental phenomena, feeling and cognition are listed separately as aggregates. The uncombined is not said to be an aggregate, because it is not suitable in meaning. This is because feeling and cognition are the root of controversy, the cause of samsara, and also for the sake of the order of the aggregates that will appear below. Not saying that the uncombined is an aggregate is because it does not conform to the meaning of accumulation. The order is coarse and universally afflicted. Vessels and so on are just like the desire realm. That is to say, the order of the five aggregates is the order in which the coarse is shown first and the subtle is shown later. The former are easy to understand and the latter are difficult to understand. Or it is the order in which all afflictions arise. Worldlings first give rise to afflictions based on seeing forms. Then afflictions arise from wanting to obtain the feeling of pleasure. Then afflictions arise from the inverted cognition. Based on that, afflictions such as volitional activities arise. Based on these four, consciousness is afflicted.
