It is considered that the meanings are the same. According to the Compendium of Topics, there are four possibilities for the eye and the eye realm: the first possibility is "is the former but not the latter"; the second possibility is "is the latter but not the former"; the third possibility is "is both"; the fourth possibility is "is neither." The first case is like the eye faculty of an Arhat who has attained nirvana without remainder. The second case is like the seed of eye consciousness. The third case is like the eye faculty with support. The fourth case is like the eye faculty similar to that. This is what is said. Second, the three dharmas included other than form and mind are: the nature and the way of establishing them as realms and sources. The first is: feeling is experiencing, consciousness is the nature of apprehending characteristics, and the aggregate of formations is different from the other four aggregates. That is, the characteristic of mental feeling experienced by its own power, divided into five types such as pleasant feeling. The characteristic of mental consciousness that apprehends the different characteristics of objects by its own power, divided into two types: with conceptualization and without conceptualization. The characteristic of the aggregate of formations, which is different from the other four aggregates, is conditioned phenomena. Divided into two types: associated formations and non-associated formations. Second, these three are non-obstructive, and all unconditioned phenomena are called the dharma source and the dharma realm. That is, by determining the dharma other than form and mind, the dharma source and its realm are also determined. These three non-obstructive forms, and all unconditioned phenomena, when established as sources and realms, are called the dharma source and its realm. Third, for the three dharmas included by mind, there are the nature of the three dharmas, identifying the main part of the three dharmas, and incidentally refuting the dispute over the definite number of realms. The first is: consciousness distinguishes individually, the mind source is also the same, and it is also considered to be seven realms, namely the six consciousnesses and the mind. The consciousness of the immediately preceding moment of the six consciousnesses is the mind. In order to establish the basis of the six consciousnesses well, it is established as eighteen realms. That is, the six consciousnesses are the main consciousnesses that individually distinguish the essence of things by their own power, and the mind source is also the same.

In reality, that is the six consciousnesses, because it is not different from the six aggregates. When establishing it as the eighteen realms, it is also accepted that there are seven consciousness realms, because there are the six aggregates of realms and the mind realm, totaling seven. Although the mind realm is not different from the six aggregates, at the time of its own immediately obtained result, whichever of the six consciousness aggregates has ceased, that is the mind realm. The reason why the mind realm is spoken of as different from the six aggregates is to extremely establish the uncommon basis of the sixth consciousness. From the perspective of the reversal of realms, the definite number is eighteen, because there are the six realms of the self-cause faculty, the six realms of the object of focus, and the realms of the resultant consciousness. From the perspective of substance, it is condensed into twelve, because the six aggregates are included in the mind realm. If slightly differentiated, there are seventeen, because the mind realm is not different from the six aggregates. Furthermore, the meaning of "realm" in Sanskrit is "dhātu." If interpreted according to its root, it is called "dhātu" in the state of the Buddhas, such as the Noble Path; in the state of samsara, it is called "realm." Moreover, because objects, consciousness, conditions, etc., are numerous and vast, and do not abandon their respective parts, it is the meaning of "realm." Because the latter part gives rise to the former's consciousness, it is also called "source of arising." The others are easy to understand. If one can clearly identify the six consciousnesses, then eye consciousness cognizes form, does not give rise to conceptualization, and possesses the aspect of consciousness. Similarly, the ear cognizes sound, the nose cognizes smell, the tongue cognizes taste, and the body cognizes touch, etc., as objects, do not give rise to conceptualization, and possess the aspect of consciousness. That which arises from the manifest object of the five faculties, or appears through the path in accordance with its appearance, is dharma, and is also mind consciousness. From the aspect of the object, it is dharma; from the aspect of cognizing it and appearing, it is called consciousness. Moreover, the sutra says: "Here, mind consciousness arises following the previous object, how it arises, or the consciousness that measures the unmanifest object, is both the object and the consciousness." Thus. The mind realm, as mentioned above, is whichever of the six consciousness aggregates has ceased at the time of the immediately obtained result of each of the six aggregates, that is the mind realm.
