Returning to the topic. Furthermore, what is explained in the individual Sutra and Tantra sections should be accepted in the context of their respective vehicles. It is not permissible to mix higher and lower vehicles and philosophical tenets for acceptance. The great Sakya Paṇḍita said, "Therefore, the individual vehicles, if done according to their own systems, if it is not the Buddha's teaching, it is said to be an image of the teaching." Here, regarding the method of determining the beginning of the year according to our own system, the Sūtra Essence of the Sun states, "The day of the full moon becomes the full moon, the last month of autumn is called the small month, this is an excellent statement." Therefore, the fifteenth day of the month of Mīnasiras (the twelfth month in the Tibetan calendar) marks the end of the previous year, and the sixteenth day of that month marks the beginning of the next year. The great Sakya Paṇḍita said in the Treasury of Words, "The year begins with what is called 'Smalpo'." And the Prince Sutra states, "The beginning of the seasons for the Buddhists is winter, and the waxing half of all months comes first." This is why it is said. Secondly, regarding the division of seasons, there are divisions into three, four, five, and six. Among these, the first is: dividing into three seasons, winter, spring, and summer, with each season consisting of four months. The purpose of this division is to recognize the condition of worn-out robes, as robes used for four months are considered worn-out. Sakya Lha says, "If a monk diligently observes robes used for four months, etc., he should know." This is why it is said. The division into four is: dividing into four seasons, winter, spring, summer, and autumn, with each season consisting of three months. The Chinese translation of the Nirvana Sutra states, "Three months are the season of spring, three months are the season of summer, three months are the direction of autumn, three months are called winter. This is based on one year, so each three months will be explained separately." The purpose of this division is to align with worldly conventions, as this is how it is known in the world. However, although it is said, there is no corresponding Sanskrit term for its actual meaning in Chinese texts. The Treasury of Words states, "Here, the months of spring, etc., are divided and spoken of as four groups of three." The division into five is: dividing into five, winter, spring, summer, short summer, and long summer. The Vinaya Sutra states, "There are five seasons, namely winter."

The time of winter, the time of spring, the time of summer, the time of short summer, and the time of long summer. The first two are four months each. The one below that is one month. The one below that is one day. The last ones are those that are less than one day in three months. Thus it is said. The necessity of dividing it in this way is to recognize the time of early summer commitment. So how is that one day of short summer identified? It is the one day of the sixteenth day of the sixth Hor month. As the Vinaya Extensive Commentary says: That is one day, the sixteenth day of the last summer month. Thus it is said. The division into six is: the beginning of winter and the end of winter, the beginning of spring and the end of spring, summer and autumn, which are six. Thus it is also said in the Nirvana Sutra: Two and two seasons become one, one year becomes six seasons. Thus it is said. The necessity of dividing it in this way is to know the twelve fasts that cannot be kept overnight, as the Abhidharma-kosa Commentary says: Of winter, spring, and summer, two and a half months have passed, and half a month remains, the wise should abandon what cannot be kept overnight. Thus it is said. Thirdly, there are three types: zodiacal day, day, and tithi day. First, there are two aspects: refutation and establishment. The first is: Some scholars say that the twelve zodiac signs are the directions at the top of the Yoke-Holding Mountain, and there are shapes of the twelve zodiac signs on the rocks there, where the sun travels, so the term "enjoying" is applied to the zodiac signs, etc., which is unreasonable, because even a slight form of valleys, wheels, etc. has not been seen. Our own system is that in the sky there are two things: the object to be traversed and the traverser. The first is the twelve zodiac signs, such as: Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, and Scorpio. Thus, the three zodiac signs of winter, the three zodiac signs of spring, the three zodiac signs of summer, and the three zodiac signs of autumn. The share of these zodiac signs is to use the twenty-seven constellations, each zodiac sign using two and a half constellations. Their sum is: from Snupskar to the lower quarter of Chusmad is the Sagittarius sign, from three-quarters of Chusmad to half of Go is the Capricorn sign, from half of Go to the upper three-quarters of Khrums is the Aquarius sign.
