The results from the second moment onwards of the indeterminate and the uncontaminated arise from four causes other than the resultant and the all-pervasive cause. They do not arise from those two causes because they are not the results of non-virtue and contaminated virtue respectively, and because they are not afflicted. The first moment of the uncontaminated, the noble path, arises from the remaining three causes other than the resultant, all-pervasive, and equipotent causes. It does not arise from the first two causes because of the aforementioned reason. It does not arise from the equipotent cause because it is not a prior instance of the same kind of uncontaminated. These are with respect to mind and mental factors. Results not included by those two arise from four, three, or two causes, as previously explained, except for the equipotent cause. It does not arise from the equipotent cause because there is no mind or mental factor that is equipotent with it. Secondly, the specific explanation of conditions. There are two: a general explanation of the nature of conditions, and a specific explanation of the immediately preceding condition. The first has three parts: a brief presentation through classification, a detailed explanation of their individual nature, and a further explanation of their characteristics. The first is: 'Conditions are stated to be four.' That is, conditions are classified into four: causal condition, immediately preceding condition, objective condition, and dominant condition. The second is: 'Cause is said to be the five causes. Minds and mental events that have arisen, not the last, are immediately preceding. Objects are all phenomena. Dominant is said to be the agent.' That is, the five causes mentioned above are causal conditions because they benefit the nature of their own results. Most minds and mental factors that have arisen, encompassed by the present and the past, are immediately preceding conditions because they are cognitions capable of being the proximate cause of the subsequent consciousness of their own result. The final minds and mental factors of an Arhat in final nirvana are not immediately preceding conditions because they are not the proximate cause of the subsequent consciousness of their own result. All phenomena, such as forms, are objective conditions, starting from form being the objective condition of eye consciousness, all phenomena are the objective condition of mental consciousness.

Because it is between existence. There are two types: objective conditions, both capable and incapable. The first is all conditioned phenomena. The second is all unconditioned phenomena. The so-called agent is explained as the dominant condition. What is the difference between these two conditions? There is a difference: the phenomena that arise simultaneously with consciousness are not the objective condition of that consciousness, but they are the dominant condition. The third is the specific characteristic: how a condition acts on a result, how a result arises from a condition, and how arising and what will arise become conditions and conditioned. The first is: When the two causes cease, they act; the three causes are at the time of arising; other conditions are the opposite of those. That is to say, among the five causes, the two causes of simultaneous arising and correspondence act on the present result that is directed towards cessation, because cause and effect are simultaneous. The remaining three causes act on the future result that can arise, because they are the producers of their subsequent results. The other three subsequent conditions act in the reverse order from the previous ones: the immediately preceding condition acts on the future result, the objective condition acts on the present result, and the dominant condition acts at all times. The second is: Mind and mental factors arise from four, the two attainments from three, others arise from the two, not from Ishvara, etc., because of order, etc. That is to say, mind and mental factors are the result of being produced by four conditions, because they are entities, so they are the result of the causal condition and the dominant condition, and because they are consciousness, so they are the result of the objective condition and the immediately preceding condition. The two cessations of absorption and the absorption without perception are produced by three conditions other than the objective condition, because they are entities, so they are the result of the causal condition and the dominant condition, and because the cessation of absorption arises from the last mind, so it is the result of the immediately preceding condition. Other than that, the remaining non-associated and form entities arise from the two, the causal condition and the dominant condition, because they are entities. The number of conditions is fixed at four, and Ishvara, etc., are not conditions, because Ishvara is a result.
