This is produced by... As companions of the primary consciousness that is non-obscured and unspecified, twelve arise: the ten mental grounds, and both conception and discernment. Sleep is added to whatever possesses it, because it is not contradictory to all of these. It was said earlier that in some cases regret is added, this is because regret also has all three: good, non-good, and unspecified. Second, regarding the perspective of the higher realms, there are the ascertainment of the mental factors to be examined, and how they arise, these two. The first is: From among those, regret, sleep, non-virtue, etc., do not exist in the first dhyana. Conception also does not exist in the special dhyana. Above that, discernment also does not exist. The meaning is that regret, sleep, non-virtue, etc., do not exist in the first dhyana. In its special entity, conception also does not exist. In its higher level, that is, the second dhyana and above, discernment also does not exist. The second is: In the virtuous mind of just the first, etc., it should be translated like that. Third, regarding the distinctions of some mental factors, there are the distinctions of eight mental factors, and the categories of names of mind and mental factors, these two. The first is: Disrespect, shamelessness, lack of embarrassment, not looking at the fear of misdeeds. Joy and reverence are knowing shame. These two belong to the desire and form realms. Conception and discernment are coarse and subtle. Pride is arrogance, and conceit is attachment to one's own dharma, the mind is completely attached. The meaning is, what is the difference between shamelessness and lack of embarrassment? Shamelessness is the mental factor of disrespecting a special object. Lack of embarrassment is not looking at the fear of misdeeds in one's own continuum. Adding a question for clarification: Joy has two types: afflicted joy and correct joy. The first is attachment and desire for sons and wives, etc. The second is the joy of generating faith in a person with qualities. These two belong to the desire and form realms, not to the formless realm, because these two arise in dependence on other objects, and those in the formless realm cannot be objects of eye consciousness for each other. Conception is the coarse state of mind, and discernment is its subtle state. Pride is the mental factor of the arrogant mind, it is substantial. Conceit is the mental factor of being attached to one's own lineage and dharma, the mind is completely attached. The second is: mind and intellect...

My consciousness is: The meaning is the same as mind and mental factors, together with the basis, object, and aspects, and also the five kinds of correspondence. It means that mind, intellect, and consciousness are the same in meaning, and mind and mental factors are called having a basis, that is, relying on self-cause, called having an object, that is, focusing on one's own object, called having aspects, that is, observing each aspect of one's own object separately. It is called correspondence, that is, because the five kinds of correspondence are the same. The five similarities are: basis, object, aspect, time, and substance are the five similarities. The aspects are the same, that is, the eye consciousness and its retinue mental factors both take the aspect of form as their object in the same way. Second, regarding non-associated formations, briefly explain from the perspective of classification, explain the nature of each in detail, and summarize the meaning from the perspective of showing the differences of other dharmas. The first is: Non-associated formations, attainment and non-attainment, homogeneity, unconscious absorption, life and characteristics, and aggregates of names, etc. It means: attainment, non-attainment, homogeneity, unconsciousness, its absorption, cessation absorption, life, birth, aging, abiding, impermanence, aggregates of names, aggregates of letters, aggregates of speech, etc., are fourteen in total. Second, it is divided into four parts: explaining the three of attainment, etc., explaining the three of unconsciousness, etc., explaining the five of life, etc., and explaining the three of name, etc. In the first part, explaining attainment and non-attainment, and explaining homogeneity. First, the nature of attainment and non-attainment, and two characteristics. The first is: attainment is obtaining and possessing. Attainment and non-attainment are in one's own continuum, belonging to all and the two cessations. It means that the dharma to be attained is established in the continuum of the person who possesses that dharma, as a substance that has the ability to possess. Classifying it, it is divided into two types: attainment of obtaining and attainment of possessing. The first is: for the continuum of noble ones, the substance that newly possesses the path of seeing. The second is: for the continuum of ordinary beings, the substance that originally possesses afflictions. Non-attainment is: the dharma to be attained, the substance that obstructs the continuum of that person from possessing it. It is divided into two types: non-attainment of obtaining and non-attainment of possessing. The first is: for the continuum of those on the path of preparation, the obstacle to the arising of the path of seeing.
