Oh! Equanimity is the nature of non-attachment, which is the equal mind towards all sentient beings. All four have an object of practice, which is to focus on sentient beings in the desire realm. Joyous immeasurable is in two grounds, namely in the first and second dhyanas. The other three are in six grounds, because they are in the six dhyana grounds. Some think there are five, namely there are five except for the near-attainment and the immediate. These four do not abandon the root of afflictions, because they only suppress them. There is a basis, because they arise in humans. The other three besides joy are mutually determined, because they are related in such a way that they do not arise without each other. The second is: The first two of the eight liberations are in the two impure meditations. The third, at the edge, is without attachment, the virtuous qualities of formless equipoise. The attainment of cessation also. At the end of the subtle and subtle, from one's own purity and the lower, the noble mind arises from that. The first, belonging to desire, has an object. Those who are formless, their object is the upper and one's own ground, suffering etc. and the direction of recollection. That is to say, there are eight liberations, namely the liberation of form-havers viewing form, the liberation of non-form-havers viewing form, the impure liberation, the four formless liberations, and the liberation of cessation. The first two are of special appearance, namely they exist in the appearance of contemplating putrefaction and other impure things. They possess a special ground, namely they exist in the first and second dhyanas, and the third liberation relies on the ground, namely it exists at the edge of the fourth dhyana. It possesses a nature, because it is of the nature of non-attachment. The four formless liberations are established in the pure virtuous qualities encompassed by the ground of formless equipoise and the stainless attainment. The liberation of cessation has a way of attaining, namely after the subtle peak of existence mind, from the cessation that is even more subtle than that, one attains. It has a way of arising from that, namely from the pure one of one's own ground and from the stainless mind of the noble one of the lower ground, it arises from the attainment. The object of the first three liberations is, because they are those that make form etc. belonging to the desire realm as the object of appearance. Those who are form
