The southwest direction is the position of the Sheep. The upper west is the Monkey, the lower west is the Bird. The northwest direction is the position of the Dog. The upper north is the Pig, the lower north is the Mouse. The northeast direction is the position of the Ox. That's how it is. So, from where should these twelve years be counted? It is based on the initially spoken Black Calculation. At that time, King These was located in the lower north segment of the Mouse, so it is counted from the Year of the Mouse. Therefore, each of the twelve years, starting with the Year of the Mouse, has the order of the five elements of power. Each power is also divided into a male year and a female year, and when combined, it is considered to be sixty years. That is, the Wood Male Mouse Year, the Wood Female Ox Year, the Fire Male Tiger Year, the Fire Female Rabbit Year, etc., because there are five sets of twelve years. So, what is the order of the five elements of power? It is that Wood generates Fire, etc., and they are combined by following the order. What is the difference between the male year and the female year? It is the Mouse, Tiger, Dragon, Horse, etc. When combining the two years of Han and Tibetan calendars, although the beginning of the year is different, according to the explanation of the upper commentary, the year of the Rabjung calendar and the Fire Female Rabbit Year of the Han calendar are the same meaning, just different names. The remaining years are also combined in the same way by following the order, and it is easy to understand until the Year of Exhaustion and the Fire Tiger Year have the same meaning. Here, Smayolpa Lhamdze, etc., consider the Rabjung calendar and the Wood Mouse Year to be the same, making the beginning of the Han and Tibetan calendars the same. This is abandoning the reliable saying passed down from one Han and Tibetan scholar to another, and adopting a new unrelated saying, so what could be more inappropriate than that? Furthermore, some later scholars say that the Bhagavan entered the womb in the Fire Rabbit Year, and some scholars say that when the Fourth Panchen Lama was born in the Fire Rabbit Year, a sign of yellow light appeared in China, so that year is the year of the Rabjung calendar of astrologers, so the reason why the Han and Nepalese people regard that year as the beginning of the year is also there. These statements are just casual remarks. In particular, it is said that during the reign of King Ciwu, yellow light appeared in China, and it was known that the Buddha was born, so the year in which the inscription was written on the stone tablet was the Year of the Tiger, which is according to the Han documents, so it is also wrong to write it here as the Fire Rabbit Year based on that statement.

Some Tibetan scholars say that the currently popular twelve-year cycle is only the practice of black calculation scholars. There is no twelve-year cycle in India, so astrologers believe that only the sixty-year cycle is a year cycle. I think this is a biased statement. In the Condensed Sutra, it says, "The years of the twelve, starting with Rabjung." In the commentary, it says, "The twelve years starting with Rabjung, like Rabjung and so on, are completely cyclical." The Manjushri Root Tantra says, "Thus, a year has twelve months, and is called a great year." It also says, "From these twelve years, auspiciousness and inauspiciousness arise." Ishvara also said, "Twelve combined with five, A and others appear." Therefore, it is established that there is a twelve-year cycle. However, if someone says that there is no naming of the twelve zodiac animals such as the rat, it is difficult to generalize. Because there is a festival of the Year of the Rooster at Vajrasana, and in the special Dharani it also says, "The first month of spring in the Year of the Snake." By the way, distinguishing from the aspect of the names of calendars, the Immortal Treasury says, "Complete count, base of count, self-protection, and abandonment are the names of the Year of the Rooster." These are four names. Second, after saying the term of the year, now we will say the term of the month. This is also because the month is determined by relying on the moon. The waxing and waning of the moon each have fifteen days, and thirty days make a month. In the Abhidharmakosha, it says, "Moment, day, night, and month are three, thirty times from top to top." The Immortal Treasury says, "Day and night. They are known as half a month in fifteen days. The front and back halves are black and white. The two added together are measurement." Therefore, the month or measurement is called a term. The Abhidharmakosha says, "Thirty days and nights are also a month." The Manjushri Root Tantra also says, "Half a month is fifteen days and nights, two halves of a month are called a month." The classifications are: the terms of the Han calculators, the terms of dependent origination, the Mongolian terms, the Tibetan terms, the Indian terms, the determination of the house month, which is the month.
