Relying on lamps and other lights, I diligently copied scriptures in dimly lit environments. Initially, due to the teacher's poor eyesight, drawing star charts was quite challenging. However, the teacher himself was skilled at explaining, and combined with my own strong desire for knowledge, I made good progress in astrology. Additionally, I learned a rough explanation of phonetics, an introduction to the wheel, and the methods of divination. I also inquired about the subtleties of arithmetic from my elder brother Gyalsay Rinpoche, and from Gyaton Karma Kunchyen, I learned about the world's structure in the Kalachakra calendar, as well as a comprehensive explanation of arithmetic and the wonderful combinations of poetic meter. Later, at the extra monastery, I studied in detail the Sarasvati grammar chart, the compilation of Chandrapa's letters, and word endings from Taklungpa Drubchen Ngawang Zungchok. I also listened to explanations of general scriptures and the easy application of poetic meter. In the presence of Je Techchen Lama, I listened to the explanation of the "Mirror of Poetry" and submitted essays for all three chapters. In general, from the age of fourteen, there was a monastic community of eight monks in Darling, and later, at the age of seventeen, I joined the newly established monastic community at Ogmin Orgyen Mindroling Monastery. I studied the monastery's chanting rituals and the three practices of dance, measurement, and melody. During these times, I memorized the commentary on the Prajnaparamita by Shang Kongpa Rinchen Gyaltsen and the explanation of the seventy meanings, Sakya Pandita's "Treatise on the Three Vows," and Lama Gyalwa's "Monk's Discipline." From my elder brother Gyalwa's son, I listened with a keen mind and understood the practice and terminology of monastic discipline. At the age of twenty, I served as the disciplinarian of the monastic community, and in the twenty-first year, the Wood Tiger year, Gyalsay Rinpoche passed away. From then on, I had to serve as the teacher for the monastic community's daily assemblies and funerary rituals. Apart from attending the morning, afternoon, and evening Dharma assemblies, and participating in gatherings with the monastic community, following the conduct of subduing the senses, I did not make diligent efforts in studying, and time passed in this way. At the age of twenty-seven, I participated in Je Lama Shau's treasure retrieval practice.

After that, in the secrecy of the inner chamber, the senior monks of the monastery were summoned and given the following instruction: 'Merely being proficient in reciting scriptures and practicing mantras, without going anywhere else, is not enough. Therefore, you must engage in study and contemplation of the sutras and tantras, combining them with your own capacity for understanding.' Therefore, the text of 'Mind at Rest' was memorized, and the commentaries were carefully examined. From the 'General Meaning of the Vinaya, Treasury of Reasoning,' the attainment of liberation, the basis for attaining what has not been attained, the precepts of the five classes, and the explanations of the three bases, were all memorized through recitation. By cultivating them through thought, a thorough understanding arose. Because of this, the mind became joyful. Now, a slight faith and aspiration arose, thinking that apart from devoting all one's intentions to the three practices of listening, contemplation, and meditation, there is no meaning in any other temporary worldly activities. A poetic petition was sent to the venerable and supreme Lama, who was residing in the great palace, asking whether it would be more beneficial to go to the monastic college for recitation, to engage in study and contemplation at one's own residence, or to focus solely on meditation. In response, the following words were bestowed: A community fluent in speech, speaking two languages, Enjoying the glory of the ocean of Dharma, Fortunate one, to your sincere question, These words I speak, pour into the vase of your heart. Nowadays, most people are attached to worldly pleasures, And due to craving, they abandon listening, contemplation, and meditation. They delight in wallowing in the swamp of wrong livelihood, But you, wise one, are surely like a lotus born from the mud. Whatever meaning there is in the Dharma spoken by the Victorious Ones, If you can bear it with your own strength, it will surely become an aid. However, the net of doubt binds tightly, Like a parrot trapped in the cage of two minds. Nowadays, the stream of blessings of the Early Translation teachings, Although undiminished, the feast of explanations That can be enjoyed is as rare as the sun at noon. It is a time to illuminate with the moonlight of courage. Therefore, to the infallible Three Jewels, Offer your examination, generate the intention of courage. Seeing the auspicious signs of unimpeded accomplishment, Strive to accomplish the places of aspiration. The generation and completion stages of the Early Translation path.
