May whatever is enjoyed in any way become a source of benefit and happiness at all times and in all circumstances. One should aspire in one's mind and also recite it in one's speech. Here, taking the essence of enjoying one's own corpse after the transference of consciousness is the supreme method. 1-818 One should not cast aside what is important, but definitely remember it when needed. When various evil winds arise, transform them into friends of Bodhisattva conduct, and practice the five powerful essences of the pure path; those are the children of the Victorious Ones. Showing the measure or sign of mind training having become accustomed Fifth, showing the measure or sign of mind training having become accustomed: The measure of becoming accustomed is reversal. That is, reversing from the way ordinary minds engage, and spontaneously generating experience in each of the stages of the objects of the path. For example, contemplating impermanence reverses the mind from pursuing the aims of this life; similarly, contemplating karma and its effects reverses the mind from non-virtue; contemplating the faults of samsara reverses the mind from all of samsara; contemplating relative Bodhicitta reverses the mind from cherishing oneself; contemplating ultimate Bodhicitta reverses the mind from clinging to characteristics. Thus, one possesses the five great signs of accomplishment. That is: the great Bodhisattva who possesses the two Bodhicittas; the great Vinaya holder who is wary of all faults and transgressions; the great ascetic who practices immeasurable austerities; the great practitioner who constantly strives in practice; and the great yogi who makes self and other, and samsara and nirvana, of equal taste. In short: 1-819 All teachings converge into one intention. That is, all the teachings of the three vehicles have the single intention of subduing self-grasping. Therefore, examine your own mind by whether or not your practice has become an antidote to self-grasping, and know the measure of whether or not your mind has become accustomed to Bodhicitta. If you think that others seeing you as good, etc., is a witness, then: Seize the chief of the two witnesses. That is, although not being ashamed by those who possess Dharma is also a witness, do not take that as the chief one, because most of them do not understand their own minds. Therefore, take as the chief witness one's own mind that is not ashamed when combined with Dharma, because one's own mind does not become secret to oneself. Also: Constantly rely on mere ease of mind. That is, with the strength of having gained confidence in taking adverse conditions as the path, without any fear of anything, cultivate joy in whatever adverse conditions arise. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

‘Mastery is achieved when one can manage even when distracted.’ This means that just as a skilled rider does not fall from the horse even when distracted, one does not rely on intense effort when sudden harm or other unfortunate events occur. Instead, compassion arises for the harm, etc., and hatred, etc., naturally cease. This is the measure of mastery. Therefore, in such situations, one should generate great joy and strive again on the path. Sixth, teaching the vows of mind training: ‘Always train in the three generalities.’ This means to train in not contradicting the commitment of mind training, not falling into turmoil, and not being partial. First, there are those who say, ‘We are mind trainers, so we only guard our minds,’ and disregard the subtle and gross precepts. Abandon these and protect all the precepts you have vowed to uphold without fail. Second, to avoid being attached to oneself, one should abandon noisy behaviors such as cutting down sacred trees and stirring up sacred lakes for the sake of others' understanding. One should train according to the Kadampa tradition established by Dromtönpa at Radreng. Third, one should abandon partiality, such as being able to endure harm from humans but not from non-humans, respecting the great and despising the small, loving relatives and hating enemies. One should train to master all of these. At that time, ‘Transform aspiration, maintain your nature.’ This means to transform the aspiration of cherishing oneself into cherishing others. In practice, one should be able to align with the conduct of Dharma friends, because all mind training should be subtle in appearance but have great practical effect. Furthermore, ‘Do not speak of impaired limbs.’ This means not to speak words that criticize others' impaired limbs or other faults, and not to think of any faults of others in one's mind. This means not to think of any faults of all sentient beings, especially those who have entered the Dharma, even for a moment. As it is said in the sutras, ‘One should generate the perception of all sentient beings as the teacher.’ Therefore, one should cultivate pure appearance and examine one's own mind, first taming the affliction that is strongest. This means that for the strongest affliction, such as attachment, one should abandon all other Dharmas and first tame that one, and abandon all expectations of results. This means that after training the mind in this way, one should abandon all expectations of gain and fame for one's own benefit. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
