Caused by faith. 1-678 Gained certainty in the Bodhicitta (Enlightenment-mind) of exchanging self and others, the root of Mahayana (Great Vehicle) Dharma. Then, he relied on Geshe (Spiritual Friend) Dolpa and Lukmeypa, disciples of Potowa, for four years, and listened to many Kadampa (Lineage) scriptures and instructions. Having developed certainty in Bodhicitta, he went to Uru at the age of thirty to seek instructions on Lojong (Mind Training). Although he listened to Dharma from the great Sharawa for two years, he did not receive even a hint of this instruction. Therefore, he became doubtful and specifically asked: Is the exchange of self and others the root of Dharma? He explained the reasons why one cannot attain Buddhahood without it, along with the scriptural authority of the Ratnavali (Precious Garland), thereby gaining trust and requesting the transmission of instructions. Master Sharawa agreed to transmit, first for six years, then for three years, a total of nine years. He focused solely on this instruction, and through listening and contemplation, he generated the Bodhicitta that severed the attachment to self-cherishing. Although Lojong is the essence of Dharma, considering that qualified individuals are rare, he initially made the restrictions on teaching very strict. Later, out of compassion, he gave the instructions to some lepers who had been abandoned by doctors and had lost hope for happiness in this life. 1-679 The leprosy was cured, and they generated perfect realization. Many such individuals gathered. It became known as 'Chakawa's Leprosy Dharma'. Later, seeing that it could bring vast benefit to others, he relaxed the restrictions on teaching and preached to large assemblies. He became the great holder of this instruction, an unparalleled great Bodhisattva. Then, Sepu Powa Master, named Oser Shonnu, inquired of him, and in Jey's Lhading and other places, he focused solely on this instruction for twenty-four years. Through listening and contemplation, as it is said, 'Even if distracted, being able to overcome is mastery', even when encountering powerful adverse conditions, he did not specifically seek antidotes, but transformed adverse conditions into the path, generating inconceivable qualities of the path. He propagated the instruction through group practice and secret teachings, as appropriate. Since he also placed the essence of practice on this, he became a great Bodhisattva. He gave the instruction to Lhalung's Wangchuk Oser Lama, then to Lhadingpa Jangchub Bum, then to Lhading Won, then to Tsokyi Khenpo Drubtson Dampa Yonten Pal, then to Khenchen Dewa Pal, then to the learned and virtuous Kawa Zhipa Drakpa Shonnu, who possessed inconceivable qualities of learning, contemplation, and meditation.

It was given to the supreme crown ornament of all holders of the teachings, the precious Sonam Drakpa. He, who is renowned like the sun and moon, and whom fortunate ones with pure perception directly see as Avalokiteśvara, possessed inconceivable great qualities. He gave it to this great being, who became like a second teacher through this very instruction. Then, he gave it to the great bodhisattva, widely known as Jñānaśrī, who saw the nature of dependent arising, free from extremes, as it is. The clinging to characteristics was shattered, and with the great rain of pure activity coming from the clouds of objectless compassion, he ripened the harvest of virtue of those to be tamed. He gave it to the incomparable Dharma Lord Rinpoche, who is completely free from all rivals in the world. I myself have received countless kindnesses of teachings, reasonings, and instructions from him, and in particular, I have received this chosen teaching many times as practical guidance. Furthermore, there are many ways of transmission, from the all-knowing Dignāga to the teacher Lodrö Tenpa, and from Chennga Ba Chenpo to Shawo Gangba, and from Lhalung Wangchuk to Lha Drowai Gonpo, and from Gyalsé Thokmé to Gyamawa Yonten Wo, and so on. I myself, first from the bodhisattva Samten Rinchenpa, then from the Dharma Lord, the great bodhisattva Retingpa Shakya Sonam, Drosa Kunpangpa Chenpo Wozer Kunga Pal, and finally from the great Vajradhara of the degenerate age, Kunga Sangpo, and others, with special effort and great faith and longing, have many times requested this essence of the scriptures. Due to the length, I have not written down the names of the lineage masters. Abiding in the center of the vast ocean of scriptures, wielding power over the island of jewels of scripture and realization, raining down the nectar of immaculate instructions, I have faith in the assembly of Nāga kings of the Kagyu lineage. Thus, the method of practicing the instructions that have come down from these lineages, according to the tradition of the Great Whispered Lineage, is divided into preliminary, main, and concluding parts. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
