It is more excellent than offering to all the Buddhas that if someone joins their palms and vows to generate Bodhicitta (བྱང་ཆུབ་ཀྱི་སེམས།, बोधिचित्त, bodhicitta, the mind of enlightenment), this offering will be outstanding and limitless.’ Etc., it is said with examples. If it is not like that, but separated from Bodhicitta, even if one strives on other paths, one will not transcend falling into a state of peace. In the Garland of Gems it says: ‘Those people who abandon the generation of the most worthy mind, abandon the mind of benefiting others and its methods, abandon the great intention and its supreme view, they abandon these pleasures and will eventually go to peace.’ Therefore, after generating certainty about the benefits and faults of generating and not generating Bodhicitta, one should diligently learn the methods of generating, abiding, and increasing Bodhicitta in one's own and others' continuums. As Jowo said: ‘Those who wish to enter the Great Vehicle Dharma, in order to eliminate darkness and suffering, the Bodhicitta like the sun and moon, even if it takes countless eons to strive to generate, it is worthwhile.’ If someone thinks that merely making the aspiration of Bodhicitta will not produce such great benefits, that is not correct. In the Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra it says: ‘Once Bodhicitta is generated, in an instant, those poor beings imprisoned in the prison of samsara will be called the sons of the Sugatas and will be worshiped by the gods and humans of the world.’ Etc., the extensive discussion is mainly based on the power of aspiration Bodhicitta. In the Vimalakīrti Nirdeśa Sutra it says: ‘Noble son, for example, even if a diamond jewel is broken, it still surpasses all gold ornaments, and it will not lose the name of a diamond jewel, and it can eliminate all poverty. Noble son, similarly, even if the diamond jewel of generating Bodhicitta for all-knowingness lacks diligence, it still surpasses the gold ornaments of the qualities of the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, and it will not lose the name of a Bodhisattva, and it can eliminate all the poverty of samsara.’ The sutra explains with examples the benefits of aspiration Bodhicitta that lacks the diligence of practice. In the Sutra of Heroic Progress it says: ‘Even generating Bodhicitta with pretense is said to be a cause of Buddhahood, what need is there to mention generating Bodhicitta after performing some virtuous deeds?’ Etc., there are endless discussions on this. The ocean of compassion is unfathomable, the mind of altruism is as vast and stable as a field of gold, the Bodhicitta perfectly accomplished from the source of supreme preciousness, is the glory of samsara and nirvana. Second, regarding the practice of giving, there are two parts. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The necessity of meditation and the order of practice. First, the method of training the mind in giving should be understood as a key instruction. Because one must repay the kindness and immeasurable karmic debts owed to all sentient beings since beginningless time. As stated in the 'Infinite Treasury Sutra': 'Some sentient beings will quarrel, the root of which is attachment. Therefore, abandon craving for anything; abandoning craving becomes a treasury.' Therefore, one must abandon the root of faults—the clinging of miserliness. As stated in the 'Bodhicharyavatara': 'Whether directly or indirectly, do not engage in anything that does not benefit sentient beings.' Therefore, one must focus solely on striving for the benefit of others. As stated in the same text: 'Nirvana is attained by abandoning all; my mind seeks to achieve Nirvana. Simultaneously with abandoning all, abandoning to sentient beings is supreme.' Therefore, the body and possessions, etc., are certain to be of a nature to be ultimately separated, and abandoning them now in actuality and in thought is a method of taking the essence and becomes a cause for achieving Nirvana. As stated in the 'Compendium of Trainings': 'My body, possessions, and the virtues born in the three times, I give to all sentient beings, protecting, purifying, and increasing them.' Therefore, to summarize all the trainings of a Bodhisattva, they are included in: abandoning the body, possessions, and the three roots of virtue; protecting, purifying, and increasing them. As stated in the 'Precious Garland': 'The form bodies of the Buddhas are born from the accumulation of merit.' Therefore, the perfections of the body and possessions, etc., of the Buddha-ground are certain to be the means of accomplishment. Those Bodhisattvas who have entered the bhumis actually perform great deeds; being skilled in the method of accomplishing them now through thought is the reason. Secondly, the order of practice has three parts: abandoning the body, abandoning possessions, and abandoning the roots of virtue. First is abandoning the body: transferring one's mind to the heart of any chosen deity, visualizing the body as larger than before, to the extent that it can embrace, the body being full, the throat strong, radiant, etc. Then, mentally opening the body, visualizing it transforming into skin, flesh, blood, bones, internal organs, heart, limbs, etc., pervading the three thousand worlds. Reciting the three syllables, blessing them as nectar, offering them to the four types of guests, visualizing them transforming into the objects they desire and are suitable for, and satisfying them. Especially giving to karmic debts, demons, and obstacles. Secondly, relinquishing one's own power. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
