There are also afflictions such as madness, seizures, and so on. To treat these, methods like bloodletting, cauterization, and reliance on poisonous medicines are employed. The fourth is the suffering of death: propelled by karma, one's lifespan is exhausted; one experiences great agony at the moment of death; various signs of death appear; one is seized by the fear of the messengers of Yama (閻魔, Yánmó, Lord of Death); one is separated from beloved friends and so on; one abandons one's body and possessions; there is no protector or ally; one goes alone, without freedom, to a place of misery, and so on. As explained in the context of contemplating impermanence. The fifth is the suffering of encountering the unpleasant: in this life, encountering enemies, evil spirits, dangerous places, fire, water, disease, hunger, thirst, and so on; in future lives, encountering the bardo (中陰, zhōng yīn, intermediate state) and the lower realms, or fearing such encounters, causing intense suffering to body and mind. The sixth is the suffering of separation from the pleasant: being separated, sometimes or permanently, from desirable objects, both internal and external, or suffering from the fear of separation. The seventh is the suffering of seeking desires and not finding them: striving to obtain objects of desire but failing to achieve them, suffering from the frustration of unfulfilled hopes. The eighth is the suffering of the aggregates of appropriation: the five aggregates of appropriation, which are tainted with defilements, are inherently of the nature of suffering from the moment they arise. Because their cause is tainted karma generated by previous afflictions; their essence is composed of tainted phenomena; their result is the generation of similar tainted phenomena in the future, and they are never free from suffering. Just as the nature of fire is heat, and the nature of impurity is foul odor. Therefore, when the Thubpa'i Wangpo (ཐུབ་པའི་དབང་པོ།, Shakyamuni Buddha) taught the four seals of dharma, he clearly stated: 'All that is tainted is suffering.' Second, contemplating the individual sufferings, there are six. The first is the suffering of the gods: even the gods of the form and formless realms, propelled by unwavering karma, although endowed with the bliss of samadhi (ཏིང་ངེ་འཛིན་, Samādhi, 定, concentration) and free from the suffering of suffering, are not free from the nature of suffering. Because they are bound by the chains of self-grasping, are subject to the power of karma and afflictions, have no control over birth and death, and will eventually fall into the lower realms, etc., because the end is not secure, like a bird thrown into the sky, or an arrow shot into the heavens. As it is said in the 'Gathering Discourse': 'Those with form or without form, who have transcended the suffering of suffering, possessing the nature of the bliss of samadhi, abiding unshakably for kalpas (བསྐལ་པ་, kalpa, 劫, eon), will also face great fear.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is not liberation. After that, one will fall again. In the waves of suffering of the lower realms, it is like having passed, and even if one tries, one cannot stay for long. Like a bird flying in the sky, like an arrow shot by the strength of a child, it has an end of falling. Like a butter lamp burning for a long time, it is destroyed every moment. 'Actions' are completely changing, oppressed by suffering. Thus. Similarly, the gods of desire born from meritorious deeds, mutually scold, threaten, despise, suppress, and so on. Some argue with the Asuras, cutting, splitting, killing, and so on. All of these, when they see the signs of death and at the time of death, experience suffering in their minds that is greater than the suffering of the lower realms. In the 'Letter to a Friend' it says: 'Even in the heavens, the suffering of death from those great pleasures is even more intense. Having thought thus, virtuous people do not crave even the heavens that will be exhausted.' Thus. What are the signs of death like? In the same text it says: 'The color of the body becomes unsightly, one dislikes the seat, the flower garlands wither, the clothes become stained, and sweat appears on the body that was not there before.' Thus. After death, most will fall into the lower realms and so on. In the same text it says: 'After transferring from the world of the gods, if there is no remainder of virtue, then one will involuntarily go to any of the animals, pretas, and hells.' Thus. Second, the suffering of the Asuras is: those sufferings mentioned above, and also, due to the habit of jealousy from previous lives, being disturbed by hating the wealth of the gods, and so on. Although they have the wisdom to distinguish between good and bad, because they have the obscuration of karma, they cannot see the truth in that very body, and so on. Eventually, they will fall into the lower realms and so on, so they are said to be a base place. In the same text it says: 'Even the Asuras, because they naturally hate the wealth of the gods, have great mental suffering. Although they have intelligence, they do not have the ability to see the truth because of the obscurations of their realm.' Thus. Third, the suffering of humans is: birth, old age, sickness, death, etc., those mentioned before, as well as busy poverty, strife, searching, fatigue, killing, driving away, etc., those similar to the suffering of the lower realms, are constantly experienced like a river. In the 'Assembly Discourse' it says: 'All the sufferings of the lower realms are also present in humans.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
