Because these will be experienced after death. As stated in the 'Letter to a Friend': 'Sinful actions are not immediately cut off like a sword, but when death arrives, the fruits of sinful actions will manifest.' Second, experiencing results that are concordant with the cause. Even if one is born as a human due to other karma, one will sequentially become short-lived, etc. As stated in the 'Garland of Jewels': 'Killing leads to a short life, harming others leads to many harms, stealing leads to poverty, engaging in adultery leads to having enemies, lying leads to slander, divisive speech leads to separation from friends, harsh speech leads to hearing unpleasant sounds, senseless talk leads to undignified words, greed destroys hope in the mind, harmful intent brings fear, and wrong views lead to wrong views.' And actions that are concordant with the cause refer to whatever action one has engaged in, one will tend to engage in similar actions. Third, the dominant result is that, sequentially, external enjoyments become weak, either there is too much rain or too little rain, etc., and various unsuitable situations arise. As quoted earlier: 'External power is weak, there is much hail, dust flies, the smell is unpleasant, the terrain is uneven, there are saline lands, etc., seasons are disordered, and fruits are scarce or nonexistent.' Third, contemplate abandoning these negative actions. Therefore, be certain that suffering results from negative causes, and then confess past misdeeds through the four powers, and resolve that even if it costs your life, you will not commit sinful actions. As stated in the 'Letter to a Friend': 'For the seeds of non-virtuous results, which are the misdeeds of body, speech, and mind, you must strive with all your might to ensure that not even a speck of them remains.' As stated in the 'Entering the Bodhisattva's Way of Life': 'Suffering arises from negative actions, how can I be certain of liberation from this? Day and night, I should only contemplate this.' If someone thinks that it is permissible to commit negative actions for the sake of relatives and friends, etc., that is not correct. As stated in the 'Letter to a Friend': 'For the sake of your monks, brahmins, gods, guests, parents, wives, and retinue, do not commit negative actions, because there will be no share in the results of hell.' Because there are sufficient reasons. Second, contemplating the results of virtuous actions is divided into three aspects: contemplating the action, contemplating the result, and contemplating how to accomplish virtuous actions. First, as mentioned earlier --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Abandoning the actions and intentions of the ten black karmas is the basis of the ten white karmas. As stated in the 'Garland of Gems': 'Not killing, not stealing, not engaging in sexual misconduct, not lying, not slandering, not speaking harshly, not engaging in idle talk, abandoning attachment and hatred, and completely abandoning wrong views—these are the ten white karmas.' Furthermore, actions that are free from the three poisons and motivated by faith and other virtues are called virtuous or white karmas. As stated in the same text: 'Without attachment, hatred, or ignorance, the actions produced by these are virtuous.' And 'Not drinking alcohol, living well, not harming others, being respectful and generous, making offerings to those worthy of offerings, and practicing loving-kindness—in short, this is the Dharma.' Second, contemplating the result: This is the opposite of the maturation result and other aspects of non-virtuous actions. As stated in the 'Garland of Gems': 'Whatever is proclaimed as the maturation result of non-virtuous actions, the opposite result occurs for all virtuous actions.' And 'Virtuous actions bring all happy migrations, and happiness in all lifetimes.' And 'This Dharma liberates one from hells, hungry ghosts, and animals, and in the realms of gods and humans, one obtains happiness, glory, and flourishing sovereignty. Contemplation, immeasurable states, and formless absorptions lead one to experience the bliss of Brahma and others.' In particular, regarding the results of the complete actions and intentions of the Great Vehicle, as stated in the 'Garland of Gems': 'Generosity brings wealth, discipline brings happiness, patience brings beauty, diligence brings majesty, contemplation brings peace, wisdom brings liberation, and loving-kindness brings the fulfillment of all purposes.' This should be understood accordingly. In short, all the blissful results of higher realms and definite goodness are certain to arise only from virtuous causes. As stated in the 'Entering the Path of the Bodhisattva': 'By doing virtuous deeds with a mindful intention, wherever one goes, in that very place, one will be revered by others due to the qualities of the fruits of those virtuous deeds.' Third, contemplating how to accomplish them: Because of the certainty of the relationship between cause and effect, one should accomplish virtuous actions through various behaviors and intentions. As stated in the 'Garland of Gems': 'Therefore, one should be fond of virtuous actions and cultivate respect.' And as stated in the 'Letter to a Friend': 'One should always rely on the ten virtuous actions with body, speech, and mind, refrain from all intoxicants, and likewise, be delighted in living a virtuous life.' That is to say, one should be skilled in the classification of what is to be accomplished and be respectful without relying on others. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
