It seems that one must experience intense suffering. 1-648 In order to avoid being born like this again, one should practice the pure path to enlightenment. Third, contemplating the suffering of animals: divided into those who dwell in water and those who are scattered. The first is: in the outer ocean, there are as many creatures such as crocodiles as there are dregs of beer. They devour each other, suffering the pain of being crowded. Driven by the ocean waves in all directions, they have no fixed abode. They cannot be sure who they will meet or who they will associate with, and they have no sense of security. The large eat the small. The bodies of large creatures such as crocodiles are pierced by shells and other things, causing suffering. Also, those who dwell in the darkness between continents are separated from objects of light and cannot see each other. They sit on top of each other, crowded and heavy. Being extremely crowded and devouring each other, their bodies rot and are mutilated. They do not even have the opportunity to search for food and drink, which is very painful. The second is: animals that rely on humans are burdened with unbearable loads, plowing, milking, bound by chains, stabbed with iron and hooks, and exploited through various kinds of labor, 1-649 and eventually slaughtered for their meat, or sold to others, or killed for pearls, wool, bones, and hides, suffering pain. Wild animals and others who do not rely on humans have no fixed abode, and are shot with arrows by hunters for their meat, chased by dogs, and jump into cliffs and abysses, etc. Even if they flee while being struck by weapons, they are eventually caught and killed, etc. Contemplating the general ignorance and specific suffering of animals, one should practice pure Dharma. Second, the suffering of change: like gods, by the power of past karma, palaces, clothes, and food, etc., appear as soon as they are thought of, and they have endless pleasures of goddesses, etc. However, when the five signs of death and the signs of approaching death appear, the mental suffering is greater than the suffering of hell. After death, even if one becomes the leader of the gods like Indra, one will be reborn as a slave among humans, etc. Gods like the sun and moon, who are able to illuminate the four continents with the light of their palaces, will also be born in the darkness between continents, unable to see even the extension and contraction of their arms, which is very painful. 1-650 Like humans, eloquent --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Decline, the rich becoming poor, encountering enemies or fearing to encounter them, separating from loved ones or fearing separation, pursuing desires without fulfillment, hopes being fruitless, and so on, sufferings beyond imagination. The Asuras (lha ma yin, non-gods) also fight each other, attack each other with weapons, limbs are severed, their nature is full of hatred, and they are jealous of the glory of the gods, the suffering in their hearts is beyond imagination. Third, the pervasive suffering of conditioned existence: people no matter how many unimaginable actions they perform, they cannot complete them, their actions are in vain, and thinking of doing this and doing that, their lives are exhausted in preparation, the actions cannot be completed, and at the time of death, their thoughts are not fulfilled, they are very painful, the wealthy are robbed by thieves, and the powerful plunder them, and so on. The poor are exhausted from seeking a livelihood, which is very painful. In short, no matter which of the six realms of the three realms one is born into, one cannot escape the nature of suffering, and in order to avoid such suffering, one should think of practicing pure Dharma. Second, contemplating the law of cause and effect: The cycle of suffering mentioned above arises from engaging in non-virtuous actions, so one must abandon them. In short, one should think of abandoning all non-virtuous actions and striving to perform even a little virtuous action as much as possible. In detail, there are three types of actions to contemplate: non-virtuous actions, virtuous actions, and neutral actions. The first type is further divided into contemplating the nature of the action, contemplating its consequences, and advising to abandon it. The first is the ten non-virtuous actions: motivated by any of the three poisons of greed, hatred, and ignorance, consciously killing living beings, from ants to humans or beings in the process of becoming human, this is killing; taking what is not given, even a leaf of a vegetable that belongs to another; other than one's own wife whom one has married with payment, other women, or those who hold vows such as nuns, or those who have taken a one-day vow, or those who are protected by parents, etc., or even one's own wife, engaging in sexual activity during the day, etc., these are all sexual misconduct; motivated by desire, etc., changing one's thoughts in order to deceive others, speaking words that do not match the meaning and cause others to misunderstand, this is lying. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
