He answered with desire: 'Do not go there, cultivate a little patience like finding a chest-moon. Look, in this life, no one wants you, there is no greater sin than this. If you cannot sew a coat with this clinging, like putting a saddle as a pillow, there will be no happiness no matter what you do. No matter what you do, it is impossible, that is the answer. If you do not practice now, you will not have it in the future either. You do not need to have great interest in this, you do not need good meditation, nor the power of mantras, etc. Even if you do not know how to read, it is possible. As soon as you remember this, the mind will relax, and happiness will increase. Because it is an antidote to afflictions, it is called the Samadhi that makes all dharmas happy. Or, whether it is an enemy or a friend, whoever sees the place where afflictions arise as a spiritual friend, that person will be happy wherever he is.' As Jowo (Jowo, Venerable, referring to Atisha) said in the 'Song of Happiness': 'Wherever you are, it is a pure land palace, whoever you are with, it is a Yidam deity, the mind is originally the Dharmadhatu, the Lama only makes it clear.' This should also be remembered. Without this, no matter what knowledge and merit you learn, it will become the five aggregates and poison. Therefore, at the moment when the throat is strangled, you must immediately practice Dol Chod (severance). If you just put it down a little, it will not succeed. If you have this, one person can have one Dharma, and one Dharma can work. But if you just do a little bit, it will not succeed. You need to be like a wild beast that grew up away from its mother, thinking 'you are going to die,' and then confront the afflictions. Whoever you are with, accept defeat and give the benefits to others. Give what the world wants most to others, and keep what you want least for yourself, just like going to Gold Island to get treasure, you cannot find a stone to throw at a dog, whatever you encounter, take it as the resource for becoming a Buddha, and immediately go to practice. Without this, no matter how much you hear, how good your meditation is, it will all become 'my Dharma,' 'building my castle to hate me,' etc., or become 'no one is smarter than me,' etc. In that case, like Ligon Zhonnu Drak (Ligon Zhonnu Drak, a person's name) said, 'I and La (la, Tibetan, referring to ego) make us suffer.' In that case, all dharmas will become competition, because you only want to be high above, so not only can you not go on the right path, but you will suffer even more. If you give up arrogance to everything and accept defeat, you will be happier. Moreover, it will not take long, it will come as soon as you remember it.' Fourth, there are three ways to turn adversity into the path. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Suffering, evil times, and unfavorable circumstances are all taken as the path. Taking suffering as the path means 'Both complete, take all.' It means that when suffering and afflictions arise, do not ask 'What Dharma will come in this situation?' and do not groan and become discouraged, but further take on the suffering of other sentient beings. This includes one's own suffering, such as being unbearable due to old age, being tormented by diseases of demons, and the loss of relatives, which are unspeakable sufferings. For example, the two brothers Zhangzun Qung Chimpa went to Tsang for studies, but both died of illness in less than a day, and another brother remained in Yarlung in Ü-Tsang, experiencing such suffering. When strong anger and other afflictions arise in one's mind, one should put oneself in the place of others, and only then will the practice go deep into the heart. If you don't practice like this, it's just lip service.' Therefore, one should generate compassion for sentient beings who have this kind of suffering, and vow to take on all their suffering and afflictions. This does not require extensive knowledge, but only a strong will and determination. Moreover, one must act immediately, without delay. Like treating milk and blood, when afflictions and suffering arise, immediately apply what you have learned, and only then can you truly practice the Dharma, and only then can you be called a 'saint'. Merely accumulating good deeds can be done even by non-Buddhists. Second, transforming evil times into the path means 'When the five degenerations are rampant, transform them into the path of Bodhi.' It means that in the degenerate age of the five degenerations, when the lives, afflictions, and views of sentient beings become bad, and it becomes difficult to practice the Dharma, all unfavorable things must be transformed into the path of Bodhi, which is the essence of the mind-training Dharma. In whatever unfavorable circumstances, one should transform them into aids for attaining enlightenment. In order to generate and increase this Bodhicitta of exchanging oneself with others, one should rely on all favorable conditions, such as relying on a lama who can teach this Dharma, associating with Dharma friends who practice this Dharma, listening to this Dharma, eliminating obstacles to practice, accumulating favorable conditions, praying to the gurus and the Three Jewels, and praying to the Dharma protectors. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
