Thank you very much for helping me, such as giving me support. 1-409 Do not verbally say that you are a Geshe (dge bshes, spiritual friend), but cultivate in your heart in this way, and do not be controlled by afflictions. Having recognized this, the method of abandoning afflictions is: to strongly accept and reject. This means that all dharmas must become the antidote to afflictions. Now, hearing and so on has become 'there is no one more intelligent than me' and so on, and afflictions have become friends of afflictions, is this like not recognizing a ghost and instead putting your nose up to smell it? It's like Uncle (a khu, uncle) Jyangchub Ö (byang chub 'od)'s father wiping his eyes with a nipple. Therefore, one must strongly subdue the afflictions based on self-grasping with an antidote. Third, how to practice, there are four points: the activity of a lifetime, the activity of a day, utilizing encounters, and transforming adverse conditions into support. Among them, the activity of a lifetime is: to train in the five powers. This means that this is what one does for a lifetime. Among these, there are two types: things to do for a lifetime, and things to do specifically in the instructions at the time of death. The five powers to be done in a lifetime are: condensed essence of pith instructions. 1-410 Training in the five powers is related to what was said above. The five powers are: the power of projection, the power of white seed, the power of refutation, the power of habituation, and the power of aspiration. Among them, the power of projection is: from now until enlightenment, do not separate from mind training. Or think, in this short life, this year, this month, do not separate from mind training. In particular, no matter what harm I suffer today, such as being insulted, slandered, etc., I must control myself and not lose any control over my self-grasping. After controlling it, I must also persevere. This is like wanting to go to collect firewood before dawn, and waking up earlier than usual. Similarly, through the power of projection, when encountering adverse conditions, one will remember the antidote. The power of white seed is: in the session breaks, in order to generate the mind training that has not yet arisen, and to increase the mind training that has already arisen, one must accumulate merit, purify obscurations, pray to the lama, pray to the Dharma protectors, and strive in hearing, thinking, and meditating, and accumulate merit, and strive in various ways to generate virtue in the mind. 1-411 The power of refutation --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is established to refute self-grasping (Tibetan: བདག་ཏུ་འཛིན་པ་, meaning: clinging to self). From beginningless samsara (Tibetan: འཁོར་བ་ཐོག་མ་མེད་པ་), generally, samsara has no end (Tibetan: འཁོར་བ་མཐའ་མེད). Especially wandering in the three lower realms (Tibetan: ངན་སོང་གསུམ་), all of this is caused by cherishing oneself and wanting only one's own happiness (Tibetan: བདག་གཅེས་འཛིན་རང་བདེ་འདོད་པ་). In this life, many undesirable things happen, not getting along with family, not fulfilling promises, all of this is because of self-grasping. From impermanence (Tibetan: མི་རྟག་པ་) to the nature of reality (Tibetan: གནས་ལུགས་), not wanting to arise in the continuum (of wisdom), is also because of self-grasping. Scholars (Tibetan: མཁས་པ), monks (Tibetan: བཙུན་པ), virtuous people (Tibetan: བཟང་བ), learned people (Tibetan: ཐོས་པ་ཆེ་བ), diligent practitioners (Tibetan: སྒྲུབ་པ་རེམ་པ་), all these people, if they do not use (what they have learned and practiced) to counteract afflictions, but instead fuel them, thinking 'I am smarter than others,' 'I am more disciplined than others,' all of this is because of not taming self-grasping. Human morality (Tibetan: མི་ཆོས), divine morality (Tibetan: ལྷ་ཆོས), where did they go? What is unnecessary? Even if one attains Buddhahood (Tibetan: སངས་རྒྱས་བསྒྲུབ་), one only becomes an elder Shravaka (Tibetan: ཉན་) or Pratyekabuddha (Tibetan: རང་), all of this is caused by clinging to self, wanting oneself to win and others to lose, so refute this. The power of habituation (Tibetan: གོམས་པའི་སྟོབས་) refers to continuously habituating oneself to exchanging self and others (Tibetan: བདག་གཞན་བརྗེ་བ་). If one does not have a strong intention (Tibetan: མོས་པ་) and a long-lasting desire (Tibetan: འདུན་པ་) for this, and does not practice continuously (Tibetan: བར་མ་ཆད་པར་མ་བསྒོམས་), one cannot abandon the cherishing of self that has been there since beginningless time. Because one does not generate cherishing for others, one must continuously habituate oneself. If, through habituation, (altruism) arises in one's continuum, then all Dharmas will be accomplished smoothly, which is called 'the Samadhi of Peaceful Conduct' (Tibetan: ཆོས་ཐམས་ཅད་བདེ་བར་འགྲོ་བའི་ཏིང་ངེ་འཛིན་), or it is something that brings happiness to gods (Tibetan: ལྷ་བདེ), nagas (Tibetan: ཀླུ་བདེ), and all beings (Tibetan: ཀུན་བདེ་བར་). Therefore, contemplate the meaning of 'Where does all the happiness in the world come from?' (Tibetan: འཇིག་རྟེན་བདེ་བ་ཇི་སྙེད་པ།) and continuously habituate yourself. The power of aspiration (Tibetan: སྨོན་ལམ་གྱི་སྟོབས་) refers to, after doing any virtuous deed, and at all times, making aspirations to tame self-grasping, and after taming it, that it does not arise again. For example, aspiring: 'May all the sufferings of beings ripen upon me' (Tibetan: འགྲོ་བའི་སྡུག་བསྔལ་གང་ཅིའང་རུང་། །དེ་ཀུན་བདག་ལ་སྨིན་གྱུར་ཅིག །). In all the Sutras (Tibetan: མདོ་), Vinayas (Tibetan: རྒྱུད་), and Shastras (Tibetan: བསྟན་བཅོས་) of the Mahayana (Tibetan: ཐེག་པ་ཆེན་པོ), there are such aspiration prayers, which can be used for making aspirations. If one cultivates these five powers, one can accomplish all the tasks of one's life. The Bodhicitta of exchanging self and others (Tibetan: བདག་གཞན་བརྗེ་བའི་བྱང་ཆུབ་ཀྱི་སེམས་) arises and increases, and relying on it, all qualities will arise. Especially if one uses it as a dying instruction, then the Mahayana transference of consciousness (Tibetan: ཐེག་ཆེན་འཕོ་བའི་གདམས་ངག་) is these five powers, and one should cherish this practice. First is the power of the white seed (Tibetan: དཀར་པོ་ས་བོན་གྱི་སྟོབས་), offering all one's possessions to the Guru (Tibetan: བླ་མ་) and the Three Jewels (Tibetan: དཀོན་མཆོག་), not giving them to people who will generate attachment, and properly managing the remaining possessions so that they do not become a cause for evil. Offer the best offerings to the objects of veneration (Tibetan: མཆོད་གནས་), --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
