Having gathered the three poisons of anger, greed, and delusion into the heart, like a thief preying on one's own mind. There is no greater thief than this. One should contemplate this often. Second, abandoning bias: Abandon all biases. This does not only refer to being fixated on time, place, or manner, but also includes all attachments to the external world, the internal spirit, the container world and its contents, as well as to saints, sentient beings, those who are liked, and those who are disliked. Once proficient, equanimity will naturally arise towards all beings. This is the natural law of things. Third, abandoning expectations: Abandon all expectations of results. This means that by doing good deeds, one hopes not to be harmed by non-humans, hopes to receive praise, hopes to be liked by the Khenpo (abbot) and teachers, hopes for sufficient food and clothing, hopes to be repaid for helping others, hopes to be called a true practitioner, and even has the expectation of becoming a Buddha. Jetsun (the venerable one) said: 'Even small attachments to kings, etc.' Therefore, if one does not learn to abandon all expectations and dependencies, then this Dharma is flawed. Therefore, it is very important to practice without any expectations. If one has expectations for this life, it cannot even be considered ordinary practice. Not to mention expectations for the next life, which is not the practice of a Bodhisattva. Even wanting to become a Buddha for one's own benefit is the cause of a Pratyekabuddha (Solitary Buddha). Fourth, abandoning reliance: Do not rely on other conditions. Generally speaking, the three studies of hearing, thinking, and meditation, as well as all ten practices of Dharma, cannot be done without relying on other conditions. Everything needs to rely on conditions, such as having favorable conditions like food, clothing, shelter, items needed for practice, and being free from enemies, demons, etc. Gyawa Sherab Wo asked Potowa: 'Is it suitable to practice Dharma now?' Potowa replied: 'When you are full, in a good mood, and your friend has not stolen your heart, then it is suitable to practice.' Also, Geshe (spiritual friend) did not gather in the monastery and wanted to go back to his hometown to gather. When he went to Yarlung, the gathering was not successful because he was ignorant. Samsara (cyclic existence) means not being able to gather. Also, Kunga Ma did not succeed in gathering there, so he went to Tsang, and because the conditions were complete, he made offerings to the Three Jewels, restored his health, and felt very happy. Also, a disciple of Kharakpa became ill, and he was given butter tea, and he said: 'Now I have meditation on the udder of a cow, which I have never had before.' Also, Jowo (the venerable one) showed his own heels, saying: 'This is how I came.' Now... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is said that Upatopa (person's name) will not have karmic consequences. When Geshe Tonjönbar (person's name) saw a young man carrying something red, he said, 'I am helping you.' When he saw an old and frail person, he said, 'You have used up your youth, and now even if you stay here with me, it will be of no use.' Some say that because they are with like-minded friends, they are able to contemplate. Some say that because some friends gave advice, it was not successful. Some say that because they are busy, it is not successful, but they may come when they are free. Some say that because they are distracted, it is not successful, but they may come when they are in solitude. Gnyags Sengge Drag (person's name) said, 'If the Kadampas (name of a school) only practice karma and its effects without understanding my Treatise on Abhidharma, how can they just keep saying karma and its effects?' Like this, there is no need to rely on any conditions such as listening. If the conditions are complete, then take that as a reason; if the conditions are not complete, if you are not angry, if you are loving, if you are hungry, if you are cold, if you are rich, if you are declining, if you are sick, if you are not sick, if you are old, if you are young, if you are hungry, if you are full, if you are harassed by enemies, if you are verbally abused by beggars or ghosts, if the guru cares, if he does not care, if friends give advice, you can practice by taking these as reasons.' Langthang's Nyentön Shangtsapa (person's name) said, 'In the absence of many internal affairs, value the Dharma friends of Geshe Rinpoche (honorific title).' Just like the story of Jowoje (person's name) and Sengge Gyal (person's name) that was mentioned earlier. All actions, walking, standing, sitting, and lying down, can be used for practice. All free and busy times can be used for practice. For this, only the courage of the mind is needed. This flawed mind has one great advantage: whatever it becomes accustomed to, it will become like that. Because it is an action, whatever you do is possible. This does not require land or attachment. Whatever you learn is possible. If you are going to explain it to others later, if you think 'they will say this,' then it will not be successful. If you think 'I myself will practice,' then the blessings of the Dharma will naturally come. For this, either you need to propitiate a deity, or you need to practice in a charnel ground.' He said that these four things are the most important to abandon. What should be practiced: Third, there are three things to be practiced: what should be practiced, by what method should it be practiced, and how should it be practiced. The first is: 'Now mainly practice, you should practice the important meaning.' It means: From beginningless time, like an old beggar, we have been wandering in the three lower realms. Now, because of some merit, we have obtained a human body with leisure and endowments, which is difficult to find even in hundreds of millions of kalpas. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
