Furthermore, having recognized the ocean of qualities, abandon self-grasping and cultivate taking on others. As it is said: 'All the sufferings of the world arise from desiring one's own happiness; all the happiness of the world arises from desiring the happiness of others.' What need is there to say more? Observe the deeds of ordinary people who work for their own benefit, and observe the deeds of the Buddhas who work for the benefit of others; the difference between these two is vast.' All such teachings are given to help us understand how to subdue the enemy of self-grasping. Geshe Langtangpa said that whenever he opened a profound text, he realized that all faults were his own and all virtues belonged to sentient beings. The key point is to give all benefits and victories to sentient beings and to take all losses and defeats upon oneself. He said that he found no other way to practice. He always said that he offered all benefits and victories to sentient beings because all qualities arise in dependence on them. He took all losses and defeats upon himself because all faults arise from self-grasping.' He always taught in this essential way. Potowa also said: 'If something good happens, they will say, 'This little monk is capable; he can do that much!' If something bad happens, they will say, 'I knew it would happen that way.' In short, know that without eliminating self-grasping, it is impossible to be liberated from samsara; without cherishing others, it is impossible to attain Buddhahood. Recognizing this is recognizing the enemy to be subdued. Now, to know whether mind training is correct or incorrect, one must 'always train in the three general principles, transform intention, and maintain the original state.' This means that it does not contradict the vows of mind training, does not become a mere formality, and does not become one-sided. These three are the signs of correct mind training; if it contradicts these three, it is incorrect. First, since I am training my mind, I cannot use the excuse that 'this will not cause any harm' to disregard even minor precepts or to belittle the effects of karma. Nor can I abandon all the practices of the scriptures, saying, 'With this mind training, nothing else is needed.' One must train with mindfulness, and in practice, from the *Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra* to Vajrayana, one must protect one's vows and commitments, not contradicting the general spirit of the scriptures, and maintaining purity. Secondly, all formalism, such as sleeping in cemeteries, cutting down sacred trees, going to places with infectious diseases, associating with those who have broken their vows, lepers, etc., and associating with spirits, must be avoided. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Regarding abandonment: Establishing the great tradition of teaching the pure biography of Geshe Tonpa (a Kadampa master) at Radreng Monastery (Rwa-sgreng), which does not contradict practicing the teachings as a four-cornered thing. Furthermore, when asked about activities related to Yeshe Gyen (a text), he said, 'It is not my intention, but the tradition of Radreng.' The third point is: Subduing attachment to self, abandoning miserliness, cultivating patience, etc., although one can target any one of these, one cannot target other aspects, thus going to one side. For example, being able to tolerate humans but not non-humans, being overly attached to ghosts, or vice versa. Respecting those of high status and despising those of low status, or vice versa. Loving one's own family and hating outsiders, or vice versa, etc., there are countless one-sided situations. Therefore, do not go to one side, but be proficient in all aspects, without error. Otherwise, if one dotes on puppies and wolfhounds like an eagle, one is not enlightened. Train in equanimity without attachment. If one only does this in behavior, then it is a mistaken practice. Therefore, one must transform the thought of benefiting oneself into the thought of wishing others happiness. Do not flaunt the actions of body and speech in front of others, such as pretending to be pitifully giving away meat, blood, monastic robes, or showing compassion to lepers, etc., at gatherings. Or making a show of force like counting the number of meat offerings. Or being attached to self, saying that one does not need others, which contradicts the purpose of the Sangha. Even in idle chatter, one must focus on a small but meaningful method of mind training. Therefore, if one matures the mind without being noticed by others, then it is the correct way to practice. If one shows the appearance of mind training in behavior without having enlightened the mind, or if one is slightly enlightened but contradicts the Vinaya, or is untimely, or unnecessary, all of these are idle chatter and are mistaken ways of training. Third, one must understand the meaning of the scriptures, like a vajra, the sun, and trees. That is to say, for example, a vajra jewel, whatever its shape, how many qualities it has, even if it is cut into hundreds and thousands of pieces, it will not lose its shape and qualities. Similarly, even if this mind training is condensed into the beginning and the end, it is still mind training. Even if it is broken down into its individual parts, the elements of mind training will not be diminished, and the meaning will not be lost. When one ray of sunlight rises, all the rays rise. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
